Hey guys :) I am still very new to the domain game so I would love some input!

How many domains do you actually keep in your portfolio? Do you continiously buy domains and keep adding or do you buy a few and then try to contact potential buyers until your inventory is running low?

I have about a dozen in my portfolio now, with maybe a 20%-33% monthly turnover as I'm impatient holding when I know I can flip quickly. Mine is minuscule compared to other domainers who I know hold thousands and thousands of domains at a time.

You want to make sure you are buying and selling consistently. It is an ongoing process. At the same time though do not just buy to buy make sure you understand the value of domains and buy only domains that give you the highest chance to profit. When you are selling do not be afraid to hold off on some low offers and wait to sell it at the price you want.

At first my focus was just to buy and sell so did not keep much domains in my portfolio maybe like around 15 to 20 at a time but quickly switched my mindset to developing domains as well and will get a lot more (focus on quality not just quantity). The expense to hold a domain is not too bad either since the price you pay to keep it is yearly. Meaning you have one year to make some type of profit out of the domain.

My inventory is generally around 250 - 300.

I'm also normally around 200-300.

I try to avoid stacking up a nasty annual renewal for a ton of names I fancy that haven't sold quickly :P

Inventory depends on purchasing power and quality.
For Example: You can buy 1 or 1000 domains for $10,000.

I've been domaining for about 6-7 months. Have around 1700-1800 names and have been putting every sale back into the game just trying to build. I went to NamesCon earlier this month and sat in on a talk about two types of start up businesses. The first is one where your main goal is profits (currently failing in this category) and the second type was fast growing businesses (current goal). The analogy used was your either driving a plane or a rocket. Rockets tend to draw more attention and investors but are more likely to blow up off the launch pad. Planes have a slow steady safe climb but its not rocket! ha hope that helps
