Noob question here... i see many domains pending delete that are registered through GoDaddy. So does that mean buyers can go to GoDaddy auctions to bid and win these domains before those who have backordered them through other Registrars such as SnapNames, Pool.com, etc.? Or once it's pending delete, it's fair-game for all registrars to try and dropcatch them?

Once it is in pending delete it's fair-game for all the registrars

GoDaddy's backordering system doesnt seem to be that successful at all... not even at getting their own domains

At GoDaddy watch the auctions, generally the names that are registered at GoDaddy and have not been renewed get listed in a public auction prior to entering the 'Pending Delete' stage. If you bid and win in this auction the domain becomes yours after about a week or so after the end of the auction if, and that is a big 'IF', the original registrant does not renew the domain after the auction finishes. (Touch wood I have never had a previous registrant renew when a domain has gone to auction though.)

If nobody bids in the auction then the name will become 'Pending Delete' and will drop when it is open to all to register it.

Hope this helps in the future.

The added benefit of securing the domain name before it enters pending delete and drops, is that it will retain its creation date in whois.
