Domain Names Wanted Section Suggestion

It seems like I am always running into threads "Premium ____ Domain Wanted" and then once I click to read the thread I see "Budget, $5 Max".

It just gets frustrating having to sift through the threads made by people with little to no budget looking for premium domains. I understand that the definition of "Premium" is different for everybody, but I imagine it should be at least a few hundred or it shouldn't have that word in the title.

Or, here's my idea. I don't know if your version of vbulletin supports thread tags, but the best option might be to have tags for different budgets (make it a required field) for the various domains wanted threads.

[UNDER $100] Looking for gaming blog domain
[$1,000+] Three character .com wanted.
[UNDER $10] Buying garbage domains.
[$10,000+] Corporate Brandable Domain Needed ASAP
[$500+] Decent Forum/Talk Domains Wanted

You could do other budgets also, but you get the idea. It would solve your problem of people not posting budgets in the OP also if you made the tags a requirement. It would also make sifting through the threads a lot easier, especially if we can search or filter by tag/budget.

It would also be a ton better than having multiple forums for different budgets, which would have been my alternate suggestion.

Think this might be possible?

I think that's a brilliant idea. I like the required field version better, though. I don't think it should be multiple choice, though. A field to let them enter their budget and have that show up in the thread title like that would be ideal, I think.

Well if you just let people enter their budget into a text field it would look a lot more cluttered than if tags were available in a dropdown.

There could be as many tags as needed also. That would be much more organized looking than if everybody typed their budget in. Plus it could be color coded according to budget then. :)

That makes sense, good point. I do like your way better.

That's true. It would work well for both for sale and wtb forums.

Anybody from the NP staff think this is an idea worth trying? I'd love to see it implemented if possible.

Can we get some staff comments on this idea? I think it would do wonders for the for sale and wanted sections.

It would also solve the problem where people don't post a budget in the OP.

I agree :tu:

It seems like every other thread doesn't have a budget posted. Can we get something like this implemented? It would solve the budget posting problem and also make it easier to browse through that section.

There are rules in place, added since your original post.
Unfortunately, it doesn't mean everyone is going to read/follow them ;)

If you see something that needs attention, please report the thread/Post

Only thing is the wanted section is very small compared to the rest of the site, I would say at any given time, there are no more than a dozen active threads. Seems to be 100 to 1 ratio if not more of sellers to buyers, but I agree with your point, I saw a recent post where this person had about 20 criteras for the domain they wanted and they basically wanted to pay a max of $25 for the domain.

Pretty much what you just said. :D

Yeah I just get sick of wasting my time clicking on threads only to find out the buyer has a budget of nickels and dimes, or worse, didn't mention a budget at all. Sure it means 1 extra page load for NP but come on, just let us see the budgets in the titles so we don't have to waste our time. I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants this. I can't be.. :|
