Hi everyone.

I know the title is not too explanatory so I will try to explain further here.

Lets take del.icio.us as an example. You can see that they just added a del subdomain to their real domain name icio, which when coupled with the us extension makes up a great dictionary word.

I was looking for a domain name for my own niche and I have found an available domain name which when using only the country extension without any subdomains, makes up a decent name for my niche.

I apologize if I gave too many details, but I would like your professional opinions, if domain name mixes like these are considered a hot property and would sell good?

Also do you know if owning a country domain name, like .us, .uk etc... requires you to be a legal resident of that country?

Thanks and I look forward to your replies.

What you are referring to is known as "domain hack". Some domain hacks go well with the extension and looks cool. Definitely stands out from the crowd. There have been $x,xxx sales reported around here. I suppose the value of the domain hack depends on the "keyword". Whether it's a popular keyword, or commercial related.

Thanks PowerUp.

Can you please share any info in regards to this question:
Also do you know if owning a country domain name, like .us, .uk etc... requires you to be a legal resident of that country?

I am still learning stuff, so pardon my noob questions.

Thanks.

"US" You must be a U.S.A citizen, and I dont believe there are restrictions on co.uk domains.

I would look it up though, as I am not 100% sure about the .US
