I was wondering what people's opinions are on domain hacks. Do you like them or not? Do you think they worthwile investments?

I picked up Ga(.)gs & Wi(.)gs recently. What do you think of these ones?

No unless you have good development plans.
Resale opportunities are very limited. If you are just looking to resell them they will likely rest on your hands and suck your money in reg fees.
Good sales in exotic TLDs are very rare.

I picked up Ga(.)gs & Wi(.)gs recently. What do you think of these ones?

ga.gs could be developed into a fun/humor site. For a humor site the added twist of a domain hack is much more acceptable. But domain hacks are not good for more businesslike sites ie. don't you think carsales.com commands more respect than carsal.es

I am not really a friend of "Domain Hacks", as they require MARKETING & MARKETING & MARKETING which is the same for "normal" short & brandable domains.
The only 2 I have (which could be conciderad as) are Prepay_cc & Prepaid_cc
where CC stands for "Calling Card" or "Credit Card".

2 char domains "hacks" for shure have a market, as in the end they are 2 char domains (XX.tld).
And if they are at the same time "hacks" you have eaven better chances.
Maybe it depends in this case a lot on the TLD and the general market for this speciffic TLD.

My former comment was more directoioned towards the "de.lici.us" style hacks.

I think short domain hacks are going to pick up.

I myself just picked up Ug.gs .

If it's a long word with the extension as part of it, it will look kind of "uneven", so I think those will require more development.

But if the word is short enough that the "dot" looks visually pleasing, I think the hack can be huge.

I also think the casual person, once these hacks first get more well know, will think it's awesome that there is a website where you just type in the word, thinking that it is without an "extension".

I like short hacks for the most part but I'd have to agree that without development or some really crafty marketing, the chances of a decent end-user sale are minimal.

The value of your average recently reg'd 2 letter cctld depends almost entirely on the circumstances imo. What we tell you is worth reg fee today could sell for xx,xxx tomorrow - or on the flip side - you may hold onto it forever and never get an offer. You won't know until it happens, or doesn't.

When I was checking two letter .gs hacks, I couldn't believe this one was available. Plus, it still leaves open subdomain domain hacks! (h.ug.gs, p.ug.gs, etc.)
