Hi guys,

Quick newbie question, ive found a domain im after, which expired on the 11th November, however it isnt letting me buy it, it still says its owned by the guy who didnt update it.

Do i have to wait for them to release it (if so, how long is that normally?) or contact godaddy?

James

James,

The first issue here is that when a domain expries, it goes through a redemption process. This period of time extends about 42 days past expiration. Now, there are several other factors to consider - based on the registrar of the domain. If infact, it is through Godaddy - it will have been placed on TDNAM already - which means if someone bid on the domain name at TDNAM and the owner doesnt reclaim - the domain name will go to that individual.

If no one bids on it at TDNAM - odds are it will be picked up by tasters when it drops. It will be picked up and dropped several times before being released again. It may even end up at Snapnames for a period of time. If after all that is done (roughly 2 months) Its not kept - it will be available for registration.

Good luck,
Justin

At some auction houses you can bid when a domain is in redemption, and the moment it completes the process - you then recieve it (if it isnt redeemed)
