NEW YORK, NY – Each year Fortune Magazine publishes a list of the largest companies in the United States by revenue. Below is the list for 2016. Also below, are some interesting characteristics of their domain name choices including whether or not these companies are prepared for SSLs on their corporate websites. 494 are using .com domain names, 4 use .nets, 1 .org, and 1 .xyz.

• 494 (98.8%) have chosen the “.com” extension for their domain name.
• 235 (47%) are running (httpS) and are prepared for the secure web.
• 18 (3.6%) have used the word “Corp” in their domain name.
• 14 (2.8%) have included the letters “Inc” in their domain name.
• 13 (2.6%) have chosen to include “Dashes” in their domain name.
• 8 (1.6%) have chosen to include the word “Company” in their domain name.
• 7 (1.4%) have choose to include “Numbers” in the their domain name.
• 5 (1%) have chosen to include the word “Corporation” in their domain name.
• 4 (0.8%) have chosen the “.net” extension for their domain name.
• 1 (0.2%) have chosen the “.org” extension for their domain name.
