Can anyone tell me if using Godaddy backordering service to pick up expiring names registered at Godaddy is worth it, or will I be better off using another backordering service? Thanks.

GoDaddy auctions off their expired domains,

So it depends on what stage the domain is at - if you missed the auction and it went through it without any bids, then any drop-catcher will have a chance at it when it is allowed to actually "drop".

GoDaddy is the best place to buy domain names compare to other registrar. But, never use their backordering service. Why? Because once the domain expire or going to be deleted, the domain will be list up at the auction section which will be seen by anyone. This is most likely to be a public auction even you've paid for GoDaddy's backordering service. They will notify you once the domain expire but they will never secure the domain for you.

It sounds unfair to the bidders. Compare to other backorder service offered at NameJet or SnapNames, GoDaddy is the worst ever. Anyway, just my 2 cents from a newbie member.

Regard,
Marinandee

oh wow I would've thought that godaddy backorder would've had an advantage for expiring names registered with them.

killakhan, as I previously mentioned, it depends on what stage it's at.

marinandee is correct in that you shouldn't use the backorder if the domain is going to go through the auction process - at which point you can try and wait to the last possible moment to bid on it if you want to avoid alerting others.

If you missed it and still nobody picked it up, at even the closeout price of $5, then GoDaddy will allow it to actually drop.

It really depends on how bad you want the domain and how much you are willing to pay. GD has worked for me a couple of times for some domains that other's had no interest in, and for which I was not willing to pay the Snap or Namejet minimum fee.

As a rule, do not use any current backorder service unless you know someone has already put in a backorder. If no one has put in a backorder for an expiring domain, your best course is to stay quiet and wait for it to expire. The moment you put in a backorder, those services will broadcast your interest and bring attention to the domain.

Really? And how can I know if a domain has been backordered at Godaddy?

It depends on the name. If it's a semi-decent .COM then you're best bet would be to backorder it through Pool, NameJet and Snapnames (not GoDaddy)..if it's a .us or some other less-competitive extension (or maybe even a particular .COM you want that you don't think there will be any competition for) then GoDaddy may work out. Trust me though, there are allot of other options out there for the exact same price which would probably beat GoDaddy.
