Hey guys,

I was just wondering which online appraisal tools you guys use when looking at a domain.

I was wondering if Valuate.com gives an honest value.

Valuate and Estibot use the same algorithms pretty much, but the only thing you should be looking at is the search volume, ad competition, serps and other stuff, ignoring the dollar appraisal.

Estibot even tells you to ignore it...

Estibot is hands down the best automated appraisal out there... I disagree with the idea that you should ignore the dollar appraisal as I think their appraisals are more accurate than a lot of manual ones I've ordered from the usual paid suspects (godaddy/sedo/moniker). And particularly when estibot spits out a $0 appraisal... that's usually dead on.

If I understand the two sites correctly, valuate licenses the estibot technology so they should spit out the same thing I think...

Also, if you're looking for an inflated autoappraisal to show potential buyers or to impress girls I'd suggest nameboy.com

Thanks guys. That info helps quite a bit.

I'm new to all this. I've been having a hard time putting a value on my unused domain names.

I'm just lost because Valuate says Spill-it.com is worth $530 and people on various forums have told me is basically worthless. I've been doing a lot of reading on what makes a domain valuable and such, I'm just trying to put it all together.

I should re-illiterate, I didn't mean completely ignore it but just take it with a huge fistful of salt.

I tend to use the dollar appraisal only to show me that something may be worth looking at in further detail...and what usually happens when you have $0 on a domain is that it gets the parsing wrong.

I had some domains I was checking earlier, suffice to say they have the word "loved" in them, estibot decided to parse every single one to "lo ved"

That is not a good thing. Especially when you have to manually change every single instance :(

These tools simply look at how many times a term is searched for, spill it may have a lot of searches, but even valuate cannot tell you if there is commercial intent there ;)

And that is what makes domains worth money, if they do not earn a penny or have that potential through brandability then they will generally be useless.

Ahh! That makes sense. Thank you!
