How Do You Research Geo Domains?

I've been pretty active in the Geo space lately and was wondering what tools you guys use when researching and determining whether to invest in a Geo domain?

Is there a great site for getting population figures? What sites do you use?

Wikipedia great for countries & major cities. Set up a script to search for occurances of the potential Geos in Google too (although be careful that the place name doesn't mean something entirely different as well which will corrupt the results)
