Doing a Video Ad on Youtube

Hi, I have been thinking of promoting my business by doing an ad on youtube.
Youtube like sites, do not get natural visitors, so if I were to make an add about domain names only users who type in domain names would likely find my ad in the search function of youtube.

Any ideas how to get attention with youtube ads?
I am in the process of planning an ad campaign on youtube, since its free right? and has million of audiences.

What are some tips for creating ads on Youtube to bring in audience?
What about length of the ads, like 30 seconds, or 5 minutes?

Do you have experience with youtube? Please share your strategy.

Thanks for the site, the best tip I found was social network tips. But not sure how effective that would be.

Especially when content is not related.
