after doing month of research about domain trading i finally decided to try this out. this is my 1st domain buy for money making purpose so pls clear this doubt.

I've owned and developed domains with "-" in them before. As far as search engines go, they don't care too much about the dash and you won't see any less traffic from them because of it.

Where you may run into traffic problems at would most likely be on type-in traffic. If the site were ever to get big enough where you had lots of people typing it in then you may be dumping some traffic to the non-dash version.

I have a hyphen domain that gets nearly 50 visits per day... all type-in.

It really depends on the name and the history behind it.

A hyphen in the middle of the domain will decimate traffic to about zero. Everything else being the same. Nobody types in a hyphenated domain. They search for keywords in google. So if your hyphenated domain is top of google you will get traffic. So you better do a whole lot of development and SEO on your domain. Then you might get some traffic. But the hyphen by itself is pretty useless.

I have a hyphenated generic transport related .com parked at Voodoo that's doing nicely. It doesn't get a great deal of traffic but the traffic it gets and the high CTR and RPC means it's well on course to make a decent profit over the year. But this is certainly the exception rather than the norm. Most hyphenated domains do have very little or no traffic in my experience, unless they are expired domains with good backlinks.

If you must try it but don't want to be stuck with it if it does indeed get no traffic, why not register it at somewhere like Dynadot where you can test the traffic and grace delete for most of your reg. fee back within a few days of registration if the traffic is zilch (likely), or you otherwise change your mind? It costs $2.50 per .com delete though so you don't want to do this too often. Also Dynadot only allows a maximum of 10% of all .com domains in a given month to be deleted. You might want to check the current deletion rate before registering as if it's at or close to 10% you might not be able to delete even if you want to.

hi. thx guys. after doing further more research i think its good idea to flip a reg fee domain as a 1st timer. with the profit from 1st il buy some domain to park. i found some good names in dot coms without hyphen. i think i can sell them for 3x to 10x reg fee.
thx for all the replies. really helped.

Hi

the number of monthly search results returned for a word or phrase in google keyword tool, DOES NOT equal actual traffic a domain will receive.

Is that 250k in exact match search results? Or broad match? The difference is tremendous.

i just found about exact and broad check box hiding behind a popup menu. so it was broad match. so everyone reporting global search with exact search?
