I've heard it said that if you register you DN with a low price company that it lowers the re-sale value. Why and How?

If I can transfer the DN to the buyer within a reasonable amount of time I don't see the problem.

Currently I'm all reg'd up with GoDaddy but my eyes are wandering towards these lower prices Im seeing.

GD is a low price place. The name values don't change but ppl aren't willing to put up with the hassle of transferring away from 1and1 or yahoo, for example, so finding a buyer can be harder, plus you have to keep for 60 days before transfer usually, and no internal transfer at many cheap places.

It might have less to do with the price per se, and more with the registrar's reputation. If a domain's with a registrar with cheap prices but can't provide English customer support, then it might make prospective buyers less interested. In the same vein, a domain with an expensive registrar might also turn off buyers, as there might be hidden costs, like register.com's fess for ownership transfer.

I'll give the classic example of 1and1. 1and1 does not offer a free push. So transferring domain names to someone else after a sale will take at least a week and cost the new owner another year's reg fee. This particularly hurts low priced domains. I would be very reluctant to pay $20 for some domain knowing I had to renew it for another year at $7-$10 AND that I'd have to wait at least a week to get ahold of it.

For higher priced domains it's probably not that big a deal.
