Does it take big money to make big money?

Hey all,

I've been into domaining for a little over 6 months now... and haven't made much net profit.

So my question: Does it really take big money to make big money?

I'm going to need about $10,000 in 4 years for college, a religious purpose, and some other things... and was wondering if I'll ever make it.

Do you think it could happen with Business06.com, TalkCSS.com, BusinessDay.us, Domaining.ws, and all my other sites at www.mattsprojects.net combined?

Or could I Just get lucky, even though I was born on Friday the 13th at 4:20 PM?

Thanks for any help,
-Matt

Well if you want to be successful you have to advertise, and that costs money.

It doesn't have to be expensive advertising, but at first spend every dime you make in advertising (and spend some of your own money if you don't make anything from the sites). With enough ads around the internet you can increase your traffic and eventually make cash. I doubt 10K from those sites, but you could get some reasonable cash.

I am not sure how this post is good in "domain name discussion"

If we have to talk about your domains, IMHO, you wont make that much money with those names.

And if you are aiming to make money for college, then either you make sites for customers and save or work some where in person.

IMHO, domaining is chance business. At least finding the right end user who might pay you a lot is a chance game IMHO.

Good luck with your amibitions. Just build the steping blocks strong and don't let them depend on a business like domaining.

Well, you just need to get people to invest in you.
I have saved/made money in the $xx,xxx range.

Thanks all for your comments and advice so far :)

Gaminghouse: Domaining is the only business in which I can use to support my costs and raise money... the sites just don't bring in enough revenue.

As for this being in domain discussion, I thought it'd be best here because it involves general domain buying/selling discussion.

usually "nice" domains comes in "nice" pricing as well.

:)

the easy way is : buy a great or "nice" domain with your kids' highschool money. Wait like 3-4 years, if your are lucky and the traffic doesn't die, then you will have a 0 $debt and be ready to start earn bucks!

Wait like 3-4 years...
yes i agree,
it helps as well if you have other sources of income to do this and stay in web business. again the issue of having big money as "reserves" will help you thru or having multiple day jobs just like i do will help you as well. :imho:

You will also need to have patience and wait for the right buyer. As the market is right now can't you just register a .com and sell at big bucks the next day. You will need to think about what might have value in the future. What the future market will be looking for in the next years and what could be high paying keywords. This strategy will not give you any income right away but the investment is low and the profit could be high.

You can also buy premium domains now and hope to sell at higher prices in the future but this strategy is expensive and again will you have to wait at least a year or two.

IMHO "patience" is one of the keywords in domaining.

4 years is a long time (1/4 of your life), you may find one domain that you can sell for $10,000 in that time.

You might even lose interest in domain names all together and find some other interest that will make you rich ;) Looking at your site you clearly have skills in other areas (programming etc) and as you yourself say
I still feel I could tackle almost anything.

That's exactly what I do.

If you're looking to make money faster, consider buying/backordering expired domains. With patience you can grab decent domains if you get them right after they expire.

I started with nothing when I started with domains. A friend of mine bought me my first domain, I developed the site and now I'm selling it for about $500. I'm using that money to register new or expired domains for $8. Usually you won't have much luck registering new names but sometimes you get lucky. It takes a lot of patience on the buying as well as the selling end. You won't always get the ideal price for your domain that you want but if you find the right person to buy it you're in good shape.

Anyone (in my eyes) can potentially make money with selling domains. Look around the NamePros community, if other people are doing it you can too. :)

Money Gets Money. Power Gets More Power.

But I believe that Hard work and dedication can beat both.

If you work hard then of course money will come. And with money more money and less work and some power.

And this cycle goes on. The toughest part is to just get started.
