Many people undeniable say that GoDaddy is a very good registrar
Stats show he has 20.223% with enom 2nd at 8.937%, NetSol 3rd at 7.921%, Tucows 4th at 6.901% and 5th Melbourne IT with 5.348%

That's a very good percentage if you consider that enom, tucows are dinosaur registrars and godaddy is an infant child beside them

GoDaddy boosted his popularity from the known superbowl boobs ads

He choose to promote and market domains names in the non techy world and targetted mainly end users

So here are some questions for you :

- Do we accept that GoDaddy got that huge percentage because he offered something different from all these registrars ?

- Do you think the boobs helped him pull the buyers to his site ?
- If the previous question is yes then Do you think PlayBoy with a hell more money than GoDaddy and a hell more better boobs and a hell more quality to their products can overrule the world and get current 1st place of GoDaddy?

Also please share with us your idea on this question too :
- Why the other registrars choose deliberately to watch GoDaddy get the domains and the awareness of the people to his GD site ?
* Is it because they know something we don't
* Because they believe their current market base is safer from the somehow unbalanced market target of GoDaddy
* or because they are totally dumb and incompetent to follow the glory road of GoDaddy

Here i may add that that is known i don't like GoDaddy for many reasons but the general outcome is that it's not so good registrar IMO
I will not mention detailed examples for this because this is the not right topic

So tell us your opinions and vote the poll

Unfortunately I don't see the point of this questionair of yours. What in the world would Playboy have to do with being an ICANN registrar. It was simply clever advertising by GD towards a time frame (Super Bowl) that caters predominantly to a testosterone driven male audiance. If it was Easter time, I'm sure they would have had the Easter Bunney and the Energizer bunny baking cakes. So forgive me if I don't see the point of you typing this up. It's simply marketing ghemicks to reach a demographic at a high volume and concentrated time.

The point here is does marketing and name brings customers to your site or just quality services
Some may say both however from this example marketing is capable alone to offer great return without tremendous quality services
The level of support / professionalism / state of the art machines were offered before GoDaddy too

I guess simply put, one can say that clever marketing brings people in at a faster pace.... but retention has to do with customer service/price ratio. For instance, I went to Moniker because of the quality of service they provide from word of mouth marketing of people who's used them... but I use Godady for my hand reges or less expensive names because of lesser renewal fees- but I def don't use them for service. It all depends what angle you take when you market something- Moniker markets quality service- GD markets more so there prices imho.

Moniker has $6.95 domains if you email Don Lyons ([email protected]?? not sure exactly) and tell him your from NP. I have domains at both places, I prefer Moniker, but I'm too lazy to transfer.

As for the GoDaddy ads.. GoDaddy was rather popular before all those ads and I dont think their success had anything to do with the boobs. The simple fact is that more and more "regular" people are getting online, joining sites like Myspace, and want to create their own place on the web. Before GoDaddy put out the ads, most people had probably never heard of a single registrar... So GoDaddy essentially put their name out there for all the people flocking to the net, and since it was the only place these people knew existed, it of course did really well. But I don't think it had anything to do with the content of the ads.

Agree with what slipxaway said. Actually, I think they provide good service and low prices to retail customers (a winning combination). I also think they have the best control panel for managing domains in bulk. Where they fall down is in their ToS. So you know what your getting into when you sign-up and register a domain. As for their marketing, they are THE retail domain registrar and host. Nobody else even comes close for their brand awareness. I think the superbowl ads only enhanced that awareness, not created it.
