Hello,
Some of my developed domains as sites are doing incredibly well on Alexa. One started from 2,000000 and in a month reached 800,000.... Does anybody know if this ranking is credible?

Alexa is extremely easy to manipulate & so its not really a credible source of info.

Alexa is a novelty toy.
(In my opinion)
As stated above, it's as easy as anything to manipulate, there are far more important factors than an Alexa rank.

some time ago if you had alexa toolbar and visited your site daily, it was growing madly...I dont know if it still works

Don't rely too much on Alexa ranking as the ranking can be manipulated by installing the Alexa toolbar and visiting your site daily.

Of course, if it's your own site and you haven't been manipulating your Alexa rank, then you can read something into it.

However, until there's a much higher adoption of the Alexa toolbar (which I don't see happening), Alexa rank will remain (as Morphmaster put it) a "novelty toy"; not reliable enough to place much weight on.

Alexa doesn't mean much. Most people do not use the Alexa toolbar, and of those that do use it, its probably mainly composed of just a single demographic. It can also be easily manipulated, I've seen programs that send tons of fake unique visitors to your site, and its somehow connected to Alexa, so it improves your ranking.

As pretty much everyone else has said, Alexa is manipulated easily, and often gives higher rankings to niche industries. [Including the Web Industry, simple because more users have the toolbar installed]

When you get well inside the top 100,000, readings become more accurate.

I don't sweat Alexa ratings it just like PR.

Another vote here for Alexa meaning... pretty much nothing ;)

I mean if it wasn't so easy to manipulate it would at least be relative but it is, so I would never put too much faith in it. Although apparently the higher the numbers go the more accurate it gets? (i.e. in the top 500 range it's fairly relative, not sure where I heard that from, anyone know if there is any truth in it?)

It is not terribly accurate, however, most of the sites in the top 100,000 are generally the highest traffic websites. Sometimes sites with a high Alexa actually do get a considerable amount of traffic. Alexa is not extremely accuarte because it only tracks people using the Alexa toolbar.

I don't think its important personally, for the reasons already stated :)

I think its fine to use it as a basic guide.

I think for the most part, Alexa does provide a good "idea" of your traffic rank. I wouldn't let a handful of dishonest webmasters deter you from using Alexa as a reference.

In addition, I think their accuracy increases as you get into their higher traffic sites.

Well on some levels Alexa can confirm a solid website when you get real high up there. However, it's very easy to manipulate as others have already stated. A site that might happen to luck out and get 4-5 visitors who come each day may have far less traffic than a website who might get 1 a day; guess who's going to come out with the better ranking?

It's one of those little details that you mention only if you have a very high one.

I have heard that alexa is only accurate when it comes to first 100,000

And yes to come in first 100,000 is a good thing.
