Personally i prefer the original Google keyword tool for simple domain search and competition info
I do see great tools with the new version for website owners who have content on their site. Great way to choose keywords to rank in Google search.

I think the keyword planner works very well. It has many different features and the results are supposed to be more accurate as well.
