I guess it sounds crazy, but every once in a while have you ever pretended it's the early to mid 90's and you're registering some the great domains that would have been available back when...??

I have to admit, I do... Oh Dear... To Dream...!!

First I'll check the whois and see what date a certain awsome domain was registered, many of the early great ones still have their original registration dates, and think to myself, what was I doing around that day..??

Let me pretend I was going to register, say - loans.com.... WOW...!!!

Or carloans.com... How about creditcards.com

And so many others...!!!!

Time for to Visit DREaMLAND...!!!

You should watch "Halt and Catch Fire" if you have not already seen it; it's every obsessed oldschool computers dream show. I absolutely love it, finally was killer!

I was talking to someone about this the other day. I was born in 1994, and I would love to have been the age I am now with the (limited, but sufficient) knowledge I have now on domain names.

Back in time register a domain wasn't a easy process.
In 1994 (but also in 1998) you couldn't just register it, there were a lot of steps and most of the time people weren't eligible for a registration (they used to have high requirements) or it would cost A LOT.

Yes I enjoyed the Halt & Catch Fire miniseries though it was sad to see it end the way it did. I'm not sure if they will have a second season or perhaps it will die off like Terranova did...

Yeah 94, there were some extra steps, although 1998 I did register a few that year online pretty much like you do today, the only wild thing being in 98', you didn't need to pay for a domain for 30 days.

I just didn't totally understand what the value would be unfortunately or would have done more as you can imagine.

The renew fees in 1994 is $200-$400 per domain..... year 2001 maybe the better choice if you want to hold lots domains

I would have just got say,,,porn.com....sex.com...finance.com maybe 3 or 4 2 letter .com,s and a couple of geo's.......no need to get greedy and stuff up the time line.

It might be fun to think about, but there are plenty of opportunities just as good now to succeed in domaining and discover new or existing niches to capitalize on.
