Do New gTLDs Have Real Resale Value, or Are They Just Experimental?

There’s a lot of hype around new gTLDs — .shop, .tech, .io, .pet, and so on. But I’ve been wondering: do they actually sell, or are we just testing them for branding experiments?

After tracking a few new gTLDs over the last year, here’s what I’ve noticed:

Observations
Buyer interest: Mostly low compared to .com, except for niche-specific gTLDs (.pet for pet businesses, .shop for ecommerce)
Traffic: Some gTLDs got early organic visibility, but resale value didn’t follow
Pricing: Premium .coms still dominate; even well-branded new gTLDs sell for a fraction
Trends: Some niches (tech startups, crypto projects) embrace non-.coms faster than traditional buyers

My take
New gTLDs are great for early branding and experimentation
They are less reliable for flipping quickly
Success seems to depend heavily on the niche and domain name quality

Questions for the community
Have you sold a new gTLD recently? For how much?
Which gTLDs do you think hold long-term resale potential?
Do buyers actually care about TLD, or is the brandability and niche what matters most?
I’m curious to hear real numbers and experiences rather than opinions.
