Do categories matter at TDNam, Afternic, etc? I'm not so sure. Helpful = rep

I realized, as I obsessed over what categories to list some new names in, that it likely doesn't matter. When I buy, I use a keyword, like "gold cards" or "horse racing". I don't browse the billions of names under a whole category.

So, buyers please tell us: Does it matter what category our names our in? Can we stop worrying about that?

Maybe the exceptions are categories like "LLLL" or "dictionary words"? But what about "automotive", or "Toys", etc.?

I don't think that the category makes a big difference. I would try really hard to get that one category correct, but I don't think it is worth paying for extra categories. As you said, not many people click on a category and browse it.

I have listed names on TDNAM (and sold them) merely by listing in the one category included in a free listing. Like Sleepys says, I try to hit the target with that one category. However, when I search on TDNAM I do so by keyword search and don't bother with searching within categories. I usually ignore the emails that come from Godaddy urging me to add more listing categories (for a fee of course..).

I think both Sedo and Afternic state that you are 2-5 times mowe likely to sell your domain if it is categorized.
