That was me. I didn't think going into detail about how to hack a forum were appropriate, given the circumstances.

I know firsthand how distressing it could be to have your site hacked. Our database was deleted last year by the same person. I can only imagine it being that much harder on Adam since he's out of town at the domain conference. We wish him the best getting back up and running ASAP.

Why do people pay to join a community that doesn't want you to even mention NamePros? :-/

MD5 is a hash - it does not store the actual password, but rather a mathmatical checksum, so to speak, of it.

Many different password combinations can share the same hash ... so what one does, with some / much effort, is generate a lot of potential passwords using a dictionary, lookup table, etc and compare those until they get some matches to the user's password MD5 hash ... when they do, they can, with some confidence, assume it's likely (they can't be 100% sure though from that alone) the user's real password.

It is always a good idea, with a little help from google, to get the source to your encryption algorithm and modify it slightly. It won't protect you from true brute-force attacks because after all, the decryption algorithm has to be on your system to validate users, but it will slow them down having to start from scratch vs pre-compiled strings.

It is called business. Some companies do not believe it is good for business to ever have the competition mentioned on their site. I'm not saying I agree with it as sharing traffic has proven to be successful. I am just saying I see their reasoning for it. This should in no way be a determining factor of whether or not the community is worth your time.

Business first, any bias should come second if at all.

To be honest, this is what I really hate about DNF. Not allowing you to mention the word NAMEPROS.

Namepros is DNF buggy man 8-X

Just got home and noticed this. I'm a member over at DNF as well, and am sorry to see this happen again. Hopefully the one responsible for such immature and thoughtless behavior will be stopped.

Many members still refer to "NP" in their threads at dnf when they have posted the same offer here and we all know what it means.

And members/mods and Admins at dnf do not tolerate Namepros bashing in threads either.

There is mutual respect for owners mods and Admins across the boards.

As we communicate with Staff at other forums, especially when there are domain issues or scammers in our midst.

Correct Biggie ;)

For the most part - We do not allow advertising of other Domain Forums here at Namepros either (As per our rules) - But in cases of Hacking / Hijacking domains - or other items of interest to ALL Domainers and Domain Forums we do make exceptions.

We are all at the mercy of these Losers doing things like this ... Sadly it is just a part of online life now.

We can only send our Good thoughts and Best wishes to anyone this happens to :(

Oh well sad to see DNF get hacked. I already started to change passwords and such on anything sensative. Oh well crap happens.

Keeping it simple, but best of luck to all at DNF to fixing the situation and eliminating their past as quickly as possible.

While it's true that they are hurting Adam, they are also hurting any/all of us that do business online.

we experienced the same a while back and it's especially difficult if you are out of town ...
Best of luck to admins over at DNF. I am sure we will soon get a more detailed statement of the owner and an assement of the damage done.

I run a forum on phpBB, and I too know how unsucure they are, but I have taken steps to prevent that from happening to me.

I also in my latest version of my forum, made it so that the fake accounts can not be created by their scripts, by renaming a few files.

Well, im not tring to flame the subject or anything like that. My first post here was to support DNF, by asking members to pay the forum a visit once its back online.

BUT

Its still disrespectfull to ban the word NAMEPROS at DNF. Sometimes I simply wana reply in public that the domain im selling is registered with Namepros but I can't !! Hope you get my point !

We got that, but as Don said, you can post "NP" and everyone will know what you mean by that. Adam just chose to not allow advertising of the competing forums on his site. You might be supprised to know that Adam is also a member at quite a few domain forums himself. Including here.

I give props to RJ, he has allowed this thread to continue and being the bigger man.

RJ has allowed this thread to continue about a competitor as the other forum is strict when the name NP is mentioned...

This comes to show that RJ has no fear in the fall of his of baby namepros and is not afraid of competition..
