the guy wants $3,000USD. Maybe they can negotiate to $3,000DNF...and a free upgrade to exclusive.

I had one server rolled in the past. It's a real pain because you can't just change the page back - you have to install everything from scratch. Hackers can install all sorts of root kits on the system that are unremoveable. So it will take quite a while to recover.

Linux: http://www.computerhope.com/unix/linux.htm

FreeBSD: http://www.computerhope.com/unix/bsd.htm

Typically BSD is more reliable, stable, secure and scalable. It's also faster on most benchmarks when it comes to serving.

My problem with linux is that it's forked to hell. This hampers help. I get freebsd help at one place... freebsdforums.com Or you can read the easy to understand HandBook.

btw..MS has a kernel but it's not Open Source and so it's never seen nor compiled by users.

Going a bit off-topic here, but I'm also looking for Linux server management and I just wondered what your experiences with those guys are?
They seem to be pretty cheap, and that always makes me a bit suspicious.. :)

They are great, I use them more than 1 year, 24/7, if server not accessible - 5, 10 minutes later they are already logged in and checking. They also install and update software, kernel etc. I have better sleep for just 30 bucks/month...

And do NOT use microsoft server, even Linux is not save anymore, use Freebsd or Solaris.

What about OpenBSD? OpenBSD has to be the most secure OS there is.

I wonder if once everything is back online again if namepros will block DNF like *******.com and DNF does the same... or will this "hacking" bring all domainers together?

Thats the most secure BSD, yes, but Solaris or AIX is safer (imho).
