Its so hard to say with these new techs. HOLO is such a brandable prefix and sounds and looks good with just about any word after it. At a quick glance, I would say drop it but who knows in the next few years, maybe in the next few years you can send people a HOLO file using email, FTP, Dropbox, OneDrive etc and then HoloSend.com would be a great name, just guessing though, I really don't know enough about it to be certain...just throwing possible ideas out there.

Going to be honest with you mate.

The only value holo will hold in the short term basis will be from a brandability angle.

The three emerging techs are VR, AR & MR.

I like many others in this thread was looking to Microsoft to make the term "Holo" as you say explode.

Truth is Microsoft, Magic Leap, Apple and companies such as google will be pushing other tech terms much harder than the term "Holo".

I don't understand why Microsoft were running with "Holo" for all these years but have now jumped on the mixed reality bandwagon, but truth is they have.

The future of "Holo" should still be promising but we will have to probably wait many years for a company to give the technology of "Holo" the credit it deserves.

All Microsoft are doing with the term "Holo" is using it in a brandability angle in the same way it did with the Xbox 360. And back in those days that didn't create a huge influx of purchases for the term 360!

Projection of Holograms will be the future but we are far off that being a household tech imo.

The overlaying of holograms that interact with the world around us is being refered to as something other than "Holo" by all the big companies involved in this tech.

That is where the problem currently lies.

Longterm a company other than microsoft will do the term justice. Can't see that happening over the next 2 years though.

You are right though longterm prospects have not changed. I just don't expect it to gain massive traction over the next 2 years because a big push is going to be made in VR, AR & MR.

When that video was posted 4 years ago there was a massive buzz but as time goes on the way microsoft have used the term Holo is looking more and more detrimental to it's short term appeal imo.

Like I said the brandability of the word is great. But there is not currently one company pushing "holo" technology. Just one company "Microsoft" using it for brandability purposes only.

Nice names.

I don't think there are none believers here. Hololens once they sort out the FOV and weight issues will be a top piece of kit.

The only downside to what microsoft is doing is they are pushing their "mixed reality" vision harder than they are their holo future.

As said before brandability wise holo is a great keyword. But technology wise we are entering a stage over the next couple of years of mixed reality. True holograms are a little further off imo.

They have been trademarking some good "Holo Keyword" phrases which isn't really helping us as Holo domain holders.

I hope I am wrong because like you I invested a bit into the term "holo". But if microsoft are pushing the mixed reality keyword forward, with magic leap, google and likely Apple jumping into mixed reality it seems the term Holo will have quite a bit of competition in the short term.

Like I said I am a "Holo" keyword fan. I am just not a fan of the way Microsoft are using it that is all.

I sold it quite cheap.

The original offer he sent was for $400 but we concluded the deal for $200 ( long story don't ask lol).

I decided to cash out because I only paid reg fee less than a year ago and I own other better domains imo that still gives me cover in the niche.

As far as adult Holo content it depends which Christmas you mean lol? This year is very doubtful because this is still the developer edition but if any country can push the boundaries, I guess Japan or China could be the ones to do it

I hope for a quick influx as well though. I cannot remember off the top of my head what adult domains I have got but from memory I do have:

i personally think we are watching the groundwork being laid for microsoft to own the holographic industry.
it's basic marketing - be the first to market anything in that space and then you own it... holo is juuuust a bit premature at the moment - so what you are seeing is microsoft slowly planting seeds for us to all think of microsoft when we think of holo...
while all the other companies are out fighting for VR, there is NO real, clear cut leader in this space. it's a muddles mess - i liken this to the drone industry...microsoft, however, is doing a fantastic job becoming the first thought we all have when it comes to holograms... they're actually brilliant in how they have gone about this really.

every aspect of this technology is getting cheaper by the day though, from camera's to bandwidth.

i have begun receiving inquiries on the regular now and am very much looking forward to the future.

it's basic marketing - be the first to market anything in that space and then you own it... holo is juuuust a bit premature at the moment - so what you are seeing is microsoft slowly planting seeds for us to all think of microsoft when we think of holo... while all the other companies are out fighting for VR and there is no real clear cut winner or company to own that space - microsoft is doing a fantastic job becoming the first thought we all have when it comes to holograms... they're actually brilliant in how they have gone about this really.

Are you a little disappointed on how they are marketing the Hololens though ?

You know I invested into Holo because I thought they were going to go all in on the holo keyword.

But everything they say now refers to mixed reality.

It seems they are doing more to promote the mixed reality keyword than they are the holo keyword.

not at all.. Holo IS mixed reality, there's nothing wrong with mentioning it - it is what it is... and Holo is significantly a better term to market than mixed reality or MR.. not even close
i also don't think they are going to go ALL out on holo just yet because they know the price is too high
