If you say...

So i guess ill drop this one...

:D

You dont have to drop, what I was trying to say is not that many people search for "porns" on the internet but they do "porn" making "porn" a highly desirable word to have in a domain, hence the 14 bids

I actually think they misnamed it: HoloLens. It's awkward to say. Is it Hollow-Lens, or Whole-O-Lens?? They need to take a course from Margot Bushnaq at Brand Bucket before they name their products.

Side projects (which essentially what this is to Microsoft's core business) for major juggernaut corporations are not as brand spelling dependent as smaller companies are. They can easily make up for that in their already well established name and distribution channels, media, and press.

and besides.... did YOU make a mistake with "Hollow-Lens, or Whole-O-Lens". Come on now.

Yes, but only for native English speakers. For other languages it's very straightforward. Not sure about Spanish/French, if it's Olo or Holo ;), but in most languages including Germanic languages, Slavic languages, Chinese and Japanese, Arabic, Hindi it's relatively straightforward and sounds similar to this Esperanto version of Holo translate.google.com/#eo/en/holo

Btw. it's a shame that something like esperanto 2.0 is not in mass usage. But maybe it needs a helping hand from some advanced AI so it doesn't end like English aka "Big Phonetic Disaster", which has many irregularities and phonetic inconsistencies. E.g. man/men -> woman/women -> human/humans ;D

I wonder if we start using devices like the HoloLens to navigate the web, what will that mean for domains?

There has to be an access point for any online business. Enter the domain...

Sure. I'm not saying they'll disappear, but more so than new TLD's or app world, this makes me wonder what domains will look like in 10 years. I mean, we've had the same system for accessing information online via domain names for what, 30 years now? You walk up to a keyboard, punch in an address, and away you go. And if, (it's a big if) "Holographic Computing" takes off and the experience of observing from behind a screen is displaced by a more immersive experience, that is PC's, tablets etc are replaced by devices like the HoloLens, does it not make sense that the domain landscape might evolve? That we might start to access these sites in a more fluid way, maybe with voice search or something like that? I mean, this could be the biggest change in the way we interact with digital - ever.

I'm not suggesting this is all DEFINITELY HAPPENING and heralding the end of connected devices as we know it. I'm just saying it's interesting to think about.

hard to disagree with the idea of change to the way we get to or access a particular web page or web site... however... even if the web evolves to straight thought control - you have to figure the one constant will always remain and that is that every website will still need some form of address.

I'm not a native English speaker so I'm not sure how well "holo" works in English, especially as a suffix, but nevertheless reg'd:
