discuss Discuss and Showcase Drone Domain Names

SpaceshipSpaceship
Watch
I have recently read that the drone industry is trying to change the word "drone" to something different.

The word "drone" has a very bad rep. for obvious reasons.

What do you think will happen with the word "drone" and drone domain names?

Feel free to showcase your drone domain names on this thread.

:tu:

For one more year, I'd say hold out then see where things are at. Still really really early days imo.

Yeah pretty early still indeed.

yeah @jamesosix would know ;) my drone auction is getting no interest. I guess I was not aware how early the market it, would not have put it on no reserve. I will hold my other drone names or not list without a reserve. Lesson learnt.

I might have made more on Ads than the current bid on this auction, well 4 or 5 more days to go, maybe things will change.

P.S. @jamesosix , I will honor whatever price it goes at, even if it is yours ;)

My Flippa auction is not getting any interest...wondering if my drone name is just not good enough :-o or if domainers are more interested in domain auctions at Flippa than end users?

Any idea?

Which is the best marketplace for drone auctions?

P.S. probably my drone name on auction is just not good enough :xf.frown: I am in trouble, this name is better than some of my other drone names. :'( .................. Just kidding.

Nice, you got two more bids since posting! Have you been contacting potential end users?

I was under impression, interested end users and domainers would keep a watch on auctions using keywords. I know GD sends out email alert based on keywords. Did not check if Flippa does? I opted for Flippa due to low fees but I don't know about its reach. Next auction, I will plan better :)

The issues we have with emerging tech names as I see it ;)

Any established drone companies (not a lot of them worldwide) already have a domain and existing website so they wont be looking for a new name

End-users wont be looking at any domain auctions, unless its a startup that just happens to be after a particular name that happens to be on auction at that time. Even if the name they want is on auction when they are looking, they wont know where to find this auction unless you have a link on the domain saying this domain is now on auction now and a link to the auction.....don't assume end-users know much about domains and know about Sedo, Godaddy, Afternic, Flippa etc....most of them dont...

If someone is starting a drone company, they will have a name in mind and will check if the domain is available or if its being used and if its not developed, they will then email the owner (sometimes only after they have googled how to find the owner of a domain) to see if its for sale or if you have a "make offer" on the domain, they will make an offer

...and the catch is domainers dont know when a startup is launching so we wont even know if someone is after a domain??

So in this type of niche, the best tactic is to spend decent money and buy a few nice domains and then just wait for end-users to come to you, if you hand-reg a lot of average names, the chances of an end-user coming knocking is massively decreased

Just how I see it..good luck folks

Yeah i personally would not risk no reserve, $1 start auction. Far too much risk imo.

haha thanks mate. Best of luck with the auction!

Lowball lowball:| started at $50 then, after a midxxxx counter, raised to $100 .
Yeah pretty early still indeed. Most likely a domainer... I wonder how many of us are bidding ridiculously low offers on each others names. I know I've done it, although I must say that putting a minimum bid of $20 on your name is almost asking for a lowball initial offer.
Eek, that is low. Yeah, tbh I have managed to pick up a couple of very cheap drone domains from other domainers in auctions here on NP. Why is nobody else really picking them up, i dont know. I guess time will tell.

While looking at tomorrows (7/16) drop I saw that dronearticles.com was going to be available. I'm not really into drone names so thought I'd share it with those who are. Good Luck.

Interesting video on Drone Recharging based on patent "Boeing patents drones that can fly forever"

DroneRecharging.com available for hand-reg as I post.

See @ 1:30 :) Though the drone could be better, seems like a missile rather than a drone.

I actually completely forgot about the few drone names I've picked up. (Probably because of how bad they are)

I recently got:

F o g D r o n e
(a dot com)

- before buying this domain, I found that there is actually such a thing as a fog dissipation drone
- This is an article on a project with the description: "Fog Dissipation Drones used to clear airport runways and other areas from fog." https://www.dronesforgood.ae/award/finalists/fog-dissapation-drones-fdd
- My thought is that this market could grow in the future..
- As a side note, it also combines the two keywords "fog" and "drone" together - but right now that doesn't add any value, but if they ever did combine the tech, it could be interesting..

@svede, Nice Pick. Just like Wi-Fi Drones, there is good scope for Fog Drones. If Drones can provide WiFi in an area where there is a temporary need for WiFi, similarly Drones can provide Fog computing. Fog Drones would be an enhanced WiFi drone, with more computing and storage capability along with high power wifi.

Possible solutions:

1. Send in drones 1st to track and knock such interfering ones out.
2. Make drones the fire fighter planes - which I think they'll do at some point, anyway. Those drones could also track and knock out the interfering ones at the same time, if they get in the way.
3. .............
4. Some or All of the above.

Fire fighting air tankers frequently crash, can't fly at night, in bad weather, and are always too few in numbers to deal with the increased demand from more wild fires, and more severe fires.

Now, they add citizen flown drones as a reason to delay fighting fires... and those best suited to 'Shooting the Sh" parrot this rational, which thinly veils an anti-drone agenda for self serving, and personal agendas.

The sad irony is lives are lost, nature burns; homes, property and livelihoods go up in smoke because they don't want to call-in the drones to fight wild fires... around the clock, in any weather, with no loss of life.
