discuss Discuss and Showcase Drone Domain Names

SpaceshipSpaceship

I have recently read that the drone industry is trying to change the word "drone" to something different.

The word "drone" has a very bad rep. for obvious reasons.

What do you think will happen with the word "drone" and drone domain names?

Feel free to showcase your drone domain names on this thread.

"or roof top drop points that get lowered by the customer"

Of course, it's all speculation, at this point. However, it's unlikely to be rooftop, as there would be too much liability, and community drop locations would defeat the purpose of delivery drones.

I am guessing drones will be delivering right to the front door, or a location outside the home, such as the driveway. You can view the test flights on Youtube. Some videos of it may have been posted earlier in this thread.

I'm not debating it, i said my thoughts, lets wait and see now. I will add that drone tech will take over the rail industry.

No one is debating...we are all simply stating our own opinions and thoughts on the subject.

...as was stated, it's all speculation.

The package tracking email will allow Amazon to track your phone and send an email when your package is ready to be delivered -most folks will be at work during the day so they, reportedly, can deliver to your job, or even to your car.

They are many ways to overcome any problems, so it will happen because the economics are so favorable... like $1 dollar per delivery by drone.

Amazon Prime members get free delivery so $1 seems expensive :)

Part of what makes Amazon work is the fact that deliveries show up at your desired shipping address. In most cases it's residential. Now we're talking rooftops, workplace, mailboxes...scary!

And forget about places like NYC. Maybe the drone will just hover outside your apartment window and you can reach out and grab your packages, lol.

The $1 is to get the goods delivered in 30 minutes.

Apartment buildings, complexes, and high rises in places like L.A. and NY will install drone landing pads.

Home real estate firms, like Century 21, are ready to install IoT connected "value add" landing pads:

A few weeks ago in .com I turned down $9500 for Top Drone, I have no problem sitting on that one for a long time :xf.smile:

A couple months ago I turned down a $10,000 offer on drones.(MYcctld)

If anybody doesn't know which cctld that is PM me and I'll let you know.

I'm bullish on drones at quality brandables/generics... but not feeling domains grasping to get a foothold.

Really hard for me to find any good dropping names in this category. Domainers seem to be holding (you can usually find decent stuff in other niches).

So far I've only picked up:

dronephotography.net
dronephotography.org
dronevideo.org

Very clear service use made me buy despite non-.com extensions. I'm sure I could develop the video one easily if i want, too.

Keeping my eyes out for good deals on the drops.

Nice domains, but dronephotography.net would be my favourite. Have you considered after market? Some previous sales have gone for (imo) low figures.

Yeah, when i was deciding if I should purchase those I saw this Flippa auction where DroneVideo.net sold for $250 https://flippa.com/3934912-most-valuable-drone-related-domain-drone-video-network

I'm not going to hit a home run here but I think a business could use these names.

Thanks for your feedback!

What market would you recommend?

Ive never bought after market myself (family, mouths to feed, low pay etc) but I guess it depends on what name you wanted dictates which market you would get it from I guess.

All the best :)

A few questions that puzzle me about drone deliveries:
1. How much weight can they carry? Can't see even a large drone (with props big enough to behead the family dog) delivering a bowling ball.
2. How long will their batteries last. Best I've heard of on a small drone is about 20 minutes. Not much range.
3. How will they fly in poor weather?
4. What about security for a delivered package. (I could see all the neighborhood kids just waiting to spot a drone.
5. Speaking of kids, what about kids throwing rocks (and other miscreants with BB guns)

And those are the easy ones.

The answers are out there... :alien3:

- 86% of what Amazon sells is under the 5 pound delivery drone payload.
- I think the range is 12 miles on a charge; w/ charging stations serving like gas stations. :-o
- All weather drones do exist, and perhaps you heard the one about remote piloted drones and little terrorists with guns? (Hint: It does not end well for the little guy. They will be seen, tracked, ID'd, caught, heavily fined, sued by Amazon, and victims).

"Amazon ships a lot of packages, in case you didnโ€™t already know. At peak last year, Amazon sold 306 items per second, which is about 26 million per day. While much of these is digital goods, if we figure if Amazon ships just one tenth of this 26 million โ€“ 2.5 million โ€“ per day in physical product form, and also figure half of those would be delivered by drone, thatโ€™s over 1.2 million drone flights a day. If an average drone can deliver 1 package per hour, that translates to a fleet of 50 thousand drones. That could mean 100 thousand drone flights over New York City on a busy day." Not sure of this guy's math, but his point is valid.
A range of 12 miles? So there will be a charging base station every 12 miles in every direction? With humans to connect them because they can't charge themselves? In populated areas, these would be like beehives (with sharp wings).

Yes, there are all-weather drones, but actually flying in inclement weather is not easy. Even a gentle 10 mph headwind or crosswind will have huge ramifications on drone flights and ranges. 12 miles will drop to under ten. Plus, are the deliveries going to leave a little waterproof disposable box when they deliver to protect the contents? That's a lot of little boxes.

These aren't remote piloted drones, are they? Who is going to track down all the normal crashes, let alone the inflicted ones? And who will then track down and arrest some kids in the suburbs? The Amazon Drone Cops? Sue them? yeah, right.

Since this is a domain thread, we'll just have to disagree on the viability of drone delivery nationwide. Limited delivery might be possible, but Bezos would be better off putting vacuum tubes underground that pop up inside houses (like some of those bank drive-through air canisters).

Definitely some valid questions and concerns being mentioned, but remember, these aren't Jr. High kids working on an after-school science project.

My guess is they have figured out a safe way to get grandma's replacement reading glasses, or little Timmy's Sponge Bob DVD delivered without killing anyone along the way.

Regardless of all the banter here, it is going to be interesting to see how it all plays out.

@verbster

Yes they would be Piloted, with two person teams -overseeing a number of drones. But, the bottom line is,
Amazon is losing over $3 Billion a year on deliveries now... so they are extremely motivated to overcome any and all problems.

Also, if you want numbers... one of the top leaders in the field, Prof. Raffaello D'Andrea, did the math and concludes Drone Delivery could be as low as 20 cents per delivery; wind factor included.

Keep in mind, he was the co-founder of KIVA systems -who built the robots running Amazon's warehouse.
In any case here is his PDF: Can Drones Deliver?

I'll leave it at that.
