discuss Discuss and Showcase Drone Domain Names

SpaceshipSpaceship
Watch
I have recently read that the drone industry is trying to change the word "drone" to something different.

The word "drone" has a very bad rep. for obvious reasons.

What do you think will happen with the word "drone" and drone domain names?

Feel free to showcase your drone domain names on this thread.

Also: what are people's takes on "UAV" in the domain? My own: it would have to be a real good, basic name to make sense. "Drone" searches must outpace "UAV" 30:1 anyway.

Finally, when people list their name like this: hex/drone does that just mean take out the "/" to get teh actual

I got my eye on a singular/plural drone name and will post here if/when I buy it.
Drone does outsearch UAV but UAV could take over depending on the market and trends etc. Both are correct terms however.

Yes to the / being in the name. Its just to stop search engines picking it up. :)

Nice sale Gregg.

Nice article about Drones for Christmas on "The Verge" website dated today

"Thanks to the massive rise in of consumer drones, one of the most popular items under the tree this year is likely to have four rotors and a camera. The FAA even this week released a video that proposes best practices to help people "stay off the naughty list" as they play with their airborne gifts.
Drones are no longer specialty items, they come in all shapes and sizes. From DJI's affordable film-quality options to Parrot's toy-sized mini versions, they've practically become a stocking stuffer. And looking at social media, it appears some people are having a lot of fun with them already:"

...lots more at the site .. sorry can't post a link.

Best to all on this Blessed Day, and continued prosperity in 2015 to everyone.

I just sold my first drone domain name:
dronefabrication.com
for $99 on Ebay.

A lot of companies use names like *fabrication.com, mostly B2B - that is a real world business name, congrats. Also *fab and *fabs - dronefabs still free.

Established real world businesses use some surprising names - check these out:

http://www.your-flying-camera-drone.com

http://unmannedsystemstechnology.com

http://aerocrats.com

BTW seems all the Santadrone combos are taken but rudolfdrone.com is free

They probably figured it's easier reading with the hyphens - which it is, when I lay it out in some different fonts. At least the hyphenating is consistent - one between each and every word. Don't know if it's enough to justify using that version of it, though.

Leaving the non-hyphenated version unregistered and not make use of it as well seems a little unsane, though.

In the meantime, here's one (.com) that is available for registration that I am passing on:

DroneCollisions

I think that's a good pass, because so what if two drones collide? What if two:
dronesfight.com (it's available)

What if two:
dronesplaychess.com

Though that one did actually inspire me to reg
chessdrone.com

What if two:
dronestalkphilosophy.com

What if two:
dronesmakelove.com

Just because something happens, or might happen, doesn't mean you need to reg it. So again, I think you're good to
passonthatone.com (also available).

I just found out that my brother-in-law got a drone for Christmas. Next Christmas, I have a feeling that many more people will be looking to
giftadrone.com

I was gonna ask, Has anyone had any success actually selling drone names yet? So thanks for the eBay post Gregg.

Also: what are people's takes on "UAV" in the domain? My own: it would have to be a real good, basic name to make sense. "Drone" searches must outpace "UAV" 30:1 anyway.

From what I understand, UAV is a more familiar term to military personnel. I'm really not sure why people use slashes when mentioning domain names here. I thought it might be to prevent spamdrones.com from indexing their domain names, but I don't think would fool a smartspamdrone.com.

And I say, if you have your eye on a domain name, get it now. Find the GoDaddy coupons post also in this forum and look for one that has 99 in it. And you can get both for .99.

And I had to reg one more:
droneppv.com,
thinking a pay-per-view site for drone footage might just fly. I'm going to pass on channeldrone.com. It's available.

This is an odd phenomenon with domains not appearing in search engine results. You can mask a name to not appear by adding special characters and most people are able to decode this (as you did yourself). It could also be because it's parked, but it won't show up on the front page.

Take out the slash; since I'm a .com fan, all are .com's.

Names can be obscured by using d-ro-ne/n/a/m/e d0t com (dronename.com) and it makes it a lot harder to rank if you are going to include the price that you acquired it for (arguments can be made for this regarding end users and their offers based upon how much you bought it for).

I got in the habit of doing this and it seems to kick threads back pages or not shot up at all with encoded domain names.

A better person to ask would be our very own Section Leader/Moderator/SEO genius, @enlytend as to why this occurs as I've never looked into it. It just happens to work.

...though, I'm unsure about how far you can go with encoding your names and where (discussions, titles, appraisals, for sale, etc... I will ask around.

:)

Let's talk about the dirty truth. Coupon codes don't do much to help your bottom line.

Ask yourself, will I renew this domain for 2-3 years or more? Renewals are the real cost in this game ;)

Is it worth it to let many of your less impressive names lapse, and then buy (most) of them back with a coupon again shortly?

No, stick to your more valuable domains and drop everything else.
By posting and trying to sell your domain names, you will soon find out the good one and know which ones to drop.
What I do is keep the domains I can easily build an affiliate site on and I trash all the rest.
