.mobi Direction of mobile access?

I am wondering what direction mobile access is going. I was one of the earliest supporters and investors in .Mobi last year. I am definately not against the extension, I see its pros and cons. One thing that caught my eye the other day was and advertisment on TV. Instead of promoting a .mobi for mobile access, it was:

wap.bravotv.com

I have not seen this before. Maybe I am out of the loop, or ignorant of wap - but I have never seen a wap.____.com advertised in america at least.

Is this a direction things could be headed? :talk:

actually i like to see adresses like this, however they could have used ...

m.bravotv.com
bravotv.com/wap
bravotv.com/m
mobile.bravotv.com
bravotv.com/mobile
g3.bravotv.com
bravotv.com/wireless

which one did they actually use again?

mind you i'm still unsure whether .mobi will succeed, but consumers are going to get so confused, it does make xxxx.mobi so much cleaner (as in bravotv.mobi - which it seems they own, as it's owned by GE)

That was the direction many were trying to go a few years ago. It seems outdated now and I am suprised anyone is still advertising that way. The trend now would be m.bravo.com or mobile.bravo.com

See I figured I was just out of the loop. I was suprised to see it advertised.

I had been anticipating these types of comments from people. We have become so accustom to getting instant gratification that we expect new technologies to reach instant success as well. DotMobi will be the "iPhone" of the Internet. The "iPhone" has received accolades for its new technology and ease of use. DotMobi has been touted as the faster, lighter weight and easier version of the Internet for mobile devices.

Point I am making: Both will require development, further infrastructure, and time before they become the huge success that we all hope.

Reality check:
1. DotMobi broke a few Internet records with its initial domain sales considering that the TLD is still less than one year old from the time of its public offering.
2. DotMobi has only but a few percentage of registered domains as active sites.
3. DotMobi is still very new to many individuals worldwide..I estimate perhaps 40 Million out of almost 6.5 Billion people even know about DotMobi.
4. DotMobi is steadily building momentum in all parts of the world.

So what to expect for the future for DotMobi:
1. Expect DotMobi domain registrations and sales to slow in 2008 but pick up again in 2009.
2. Expect DotMobi awareness to pick up in late 2008 as more nations and individuals gear toward the TLD.
3. Expect DotMobi advertisers, marketers and tech companies to move more dollars into the TLD in late 2008 and early 2009.
4. Expect DotMobi to be a much bigger success in 2009 when more "iPhone" like devices are in the hands of people who wish to get to content on the Internet.
5. DotMobi premium name domains will carry comparable values to DotCom names in 2010.
6. DotMobi will reach 10 Million Registered Domain names and at least 2 Million Active Domain sites by 2012.

DotMobi always has been and always will be a long term proposition. Anything else is completely unrealistic.
