Did GoDaddy bid against me in auction??

I was bidding on a 12year old great keyword product domain valued at over $30K (estibot). I had to leave before the final few minutes after getting extended for nearly 30 minutes, and lost by $5. Anyway, it has been over almost 2 weeks and the WHOIS information is showing nothing. It says "no match found" in registrar database, but does have the original register date, new updated and expired information. How could someone win this auction and it is showing nothing in the registry? Did GoDaddy just snatch this up for themselves or attempted to drive up the price of bids? I was watching the auction view page numbers and it never changed except when I hit refresh, so it was only counting my views. Or maybe if the winning bidder didn't pay will it be reauctioned or come back down to me??

Did you try and contact Godaddy via phone and ask them? The original owner likely renewed the name themselves. Does the whois info say anything about redemption period?

This is what the whois shows. The prior registrant is no longer showing.

No match for ".com " in the registrar database.

Registrar: GODADDY.COM, INC.
Whois Server: whois.godaddy.com
Creation Date: 5-JAN-2000
Updated Date: 05-APR-2011
Expiration Date: 5-JAN-2012

Nameserver: NS63.DOMAINCONTROL.COM
Nameserver: NS64.DOMAINCONTROL.COM

Registry Status: ok

I will give them a call. thanks

It takes min 5 days for the name to be transferred to the new owner. My guess is that the highest bidder hasn't paid or they paid late.

COuld be the new owner is leaving it parked at godaddy.
And has whois blocked off.

The creation date would show 2011. When you buy a domain from Godaddy the creation date doesn't stay the same. Unless I am mistaken...?

I do not buy off Godaddy much, but the handful I did the creation date always changed to the current date of purchase.

Someone more experienced with purchasing off of TDNAM care to educate me?

I called them and they told me its in update status. Said he couldn't get any more specific other than it was not renewed by registrant. Usually when the status changes all the information is updated. I have bought many domains from expiring auction and the original date stays the same. It should only clear on a deleted/dropped name. You can guarantee I will continue monitoring it. It is an awesome domain that I have no idea why someone would not renew. Thanks everyone

If a domain drops, then the creation date changes to the next date that the domain is purchased

The creation date would stay the same if this was an "Expiring Auction"

I've had cases where the original "winner" didn't pay, and since I was the 2nd highest bidder, they sent me a note that I won the name.

If this happens to you, make sure you get the "BEST" price when you assume the other bidder did not exist.

In other words, say the bidding went like this:

-You $25
-Them $30
-You $35
-Them $40
-You $45
-Them $50 (and this is their winning bid)

If they don't pay, you should get it for $25

That would not surprise me at all if GoDaddy was doing this. I have often though that they have bid against me in the past as well.

I think you should really contact GoDaddy

this is very common in godaddy expired auction

it usually takes 7 days to transfer the domain to your account
At the end of the 6th day transfer begins and there will no contact info available for few hours

They probably did bid against you in the past. In fact, Godaddy VP Adam Dicker procured SPYWARE.US by secretly bidding against clueless customers like you and me. He drove the price up to $3000. IMHO, he didn't pay what he bid. As Godaddy VP, he could have just taken the name for himself for nothing after pumping up the bid price. What a scumbag. Of course Dicker and Godaddy were "outed" and Dicker subsequently left Godaddy (or was fired, I'm not sure). Red-faced Godaddy then changed their policy to prohibit employees from bidding against customers at Godaddy auctions, but IMHO that was for public consumption only.
