Developing Domains/Websites as a Group?

Who here has developed a website or domain with a group? Ive tried it a few times and its works VERY well if you limit the amount of people involved to dedciated inviduals and make sure that everyone pulls there fair share.

Ive found that if you have 3-4 webmasters working diligently together with good cooperation you can get a website developed at a rapid pace, and sell it for a fair sum if the price is right.

How about you guys?

And anyone interested in possibly giving this a go? Similar to what the Registration contest is like, except we would all split the profit from the sale depending on involvement.

Hi Darkfire001, I have just register my newly found domain name called HubAlpha.com as kind of a center point for a bunch of domain names I want to develope. I am thinking out loud here as to maybe some kind of co-op sort of a set up with people with different skills working together. NamePros kind of brings alot of people together like this. You know I don't really think I am that great at most internet stuff myself, but I think each person has something they do really well, that they maynot even give themselves credit for. Also different members seem to be able to come up with different resources, like hosting, making banners, coding and stuff like that. I have seen some who are just absolute whizes at thinking up domain names but could not write a line of html. So how would one bring such a diverse group together in one spot? Hard to know. Plus we have a bunch those that somehow seem to be able to make a buck doing it (not me by any means).

So anyone, what would such a union look like? A business plan? Guide lines, job descriptions, ect?? My great site name HubAlpha.com? Interesting to think about.

This is correct and I have already struck a deal with a friend. He is the best graphics person on the net, and i can code + buy and sell the domains.

50/50 lol

if you know the person/s you are working with then it's ok compared to not knowing them

Yup - a lot of trust involved in something like that. You would need to be sure of who your partners were.

I've worked as a group of 3 people on one website, and as a joint effort as 2 on another website.

Honestly, I could do the work much better myself. I just don't seem to be able to work with somebody else on something, unless I'm in complete control, and they are there to help me through it abit.

The group of 3 I worked in was alright. I was able to get on with most of the content and design by myself. One of the guys wasn't really into the main structure of the website, but he was at my side to help me with ideas, and install a few scripts that I needed. I found that this worked out really well. It was about 70/30 which worked out great for me.

As for the other guy, he wasn't online much, and when he did come online, he 'took over' unknown as to what changes had been done. After he'd made his mark he's speed away offline for another few days.

Alright, so he was helping in a good way, but he wasn't online enough or nor could we communicate / and or pay attention to what things had been updated and what exactly was happening. Perhaps it was just bad set-up.

As for the joint effort between me and another guy... Well, we had the same interests on what we where doing, and where heading in the right direction, the only problem was, we could never agree on each others ideas. I'd do something, and it wouldn't be right for him, or he'd do something and it wouldn't be right for me.

I remember one morning we where talking, and I was telling him my ideas for the content and the design, and explaining that I'd like to work on it over a period of time. He was cool with this, and when I signed on that evening, he PM'ed me with a link to the website already made, with little content on the pages. If he had proper access, he would have had the website open and everything. I was shocked, and disappointed!

When we did finally get things going, he walked away from the whole website because there was an arguement between a few people, just because somebody didn't agree on something he did. This has put me off working with somebody 50/50 on domain/website development.

I remember another time I was chatting to somebody about setting up a website. One evening I signed on and he had already decided on a name for the website, and had the domain registered and a forum set-up. What a shocking 'put-off'.

yah, it sort of iratates me when you cant get along with teammates, but the community here at Namepros.com gets along pretty well so I cant see why a few group websites might not get along well.

I'm not sure if it makes a different whether it is the NP community or not, but the people I've tried to set up websites with where actually online mates.

Perhaps it may be easier within this community, because we have a large majority of choice to pick from when it comes to website developing... For instance, if we have a team of 3 people, we can equallily divide that up... Design, Scripts, Content.

It is easier if you have one person doing a particular task, instead of 2 or more people trying to work on the same thing all at once.

I've been in and out several businesses and partnership does not work very well because there is no fine line as "who is doing what?"

In the domain business, there are three parts that need to be involved:

- ownership of the domain
- design/progamming
- marketing

The best way to do it would be if you still own the domain but work with graphics designers or webmasters to implement the site and they will get certain percentage of the sale.

Let say you own abc.com
I design and program the site for you
You do the marketing to sale the site.
Once the site is sold, I get xx% of the sale.

Just my opinion. I was thinking about this myself. I own about 300+ domain names andonly has so much time to develop them.

You can sell the developed sites easier than haggle $10-$20 for just the names.

Just my 2 cents.
