I hear these term used frequently since the time I have been active on this forum and elsewhere. I know what the word means literally but I need deeper information on it. I saw a developed forum Families.com that sold last week for large sum of money, but that is a forum. Suppose the domain name I have is realated to

- BroadBand

- Online Shopping

How can I develop it instead of parking the domain and earn minimal returns?

The intrinsic questions are below.

- Does it require a programmer or a web developer to do it?

- What are the requirements other than the domain name to create such a site?

I must presume this thread will bring in lots of ideas, comments and suggestions.

Depending on how complex the site needs to be.

You can have a simple website up and running (online) maybee not to your needs (content wise) in no time. theres a lot of "scripts" out there. that make life easier for those of who cannot code/design the sites ourselves.

EG: it took me about 2 minutes to put www.californiacontractor.info online using wordpress. Not really a "site" but it's a good starting point, simple to use and you can do wonders with it as theres that many options, and it's free.

then again i've got a larger site that took weeks to finish.

then again you can do wonders with someone who knows what they are doing.

Web Hosting

again a script/template if you dont want to work with a programmer/designer.

Time And Effort.

If you were to go the simple route (just to start off) get CPanel hosting and go into fantistico as they have scripts built in with 1 click instalation (no php/html experience needed to start with)

Then learn as you go.

You can go with a CMS/Content Management System, ex's: Joomla, Drupal, etc... They come in all flavors from simple to more complex ones that have a lot of plugins and optional add-ons. Some of the best ones are open source and/or free. Check out - http://www.CMSMatrix.org

Though I'm not sure it can be technically classified a CMS, check out 19Pages.com for building minisites.

Or you could create a directory (eSyndicate, PHPLD/PHP Link Directory, and many others). Again, many have free basic versions that can get you started and, if you find you want additional features, you can upgrade in the future to the paid version. Check out http://www.HotScripts.com . Scripts will run from free to $$$.

Though I've never used any, I believe their are also some open source and/or free forum scripts .

You also might check out your web host package to see if there are any free scripts available with it. Look for/under "Fantastico" if your hosting package has cPanel. Fantastico is an installer package that can (usually) successfully walk you through the install of the scripts included with it.
