Every day we see Sedo posting newly closed sales of domains. Somehow, it just seems too easy.

sellsunglasses.com : $700
mydogsupplies.com : $900
webdiets.com : $1750

Now, frankly, if someone posted these names to these boards, they would be told that they were worth 'reg fee'. The frist two are 3-word domains after all.

Are these sales rare anomalies, or is it not surprising at all that they fetched this much?

None of these appear to be developed at all.

Is it possible that they found end users separately, told them to go to Sedo, told them how to register, and sold it that way? Is this a common practice, or is that just a waste of 10% of your sale price?

Just goes to show that an appraisal can never factor in, "I need it, I want it, Fits perfect, I will pay anything for it!" Having a buyer go to SEDO to broker the sale or any other broker is a matter of preference and comfortablility.

P.S. Weddiets is a good one!

It just shows that the true value of a name is how much an end user is willing to pay for it...

I think it is most likely that they found end users separately.

I am also not suprised that they fetched these prices. All appraisals should be relative to the amount of marketing effort you are prepared to make. A domain may be worth reg fee if you are a lazy investor but can be worth much more if you make The Effort.

I just sold ArcadeGamesWarehouse.com for $350.00 on Sedo. This was in response to my own marketing letters. I received an offer directly and I told the bidder to proceed through Sedo for both of our protection.

In fact I always add in my marketing letters, "to make an offer you can reply to me at dominic@*** or Alternatively go to *********.com and follow the link to Sedo where you can make your offer"

I have had my ifs and buts on appraisals since day 1. I have been given amounts of reg fee, xx, xxx and low xxxx on the same name. :)

If like me you feel your names are good, its a waiting game imo. I could sell all my names here today for nps or low x but..... I can wait :hehe:

If you look close to this sold list:
sellsunglasses.com : $700
mydogsupplies.com : $900
webdiets.com : $1750
You can see that sellsunglasses.com got PR2 + links +
(I guess)traffic, and its keywords are good.
So I dont see the price is so high.

WebDiets.com could sold for much more with another enduser.

So I think those sales are not so surprising...for me at least.

SearchAgent..com for $7k seems to be realy a great deal...
not talking about Jews.us for $25k !!!!

not always. i sold recently a domain name (a 2 word .com) for $2,000. i received the offer through sedo. i didn't look for the end user, neither did promote the name.
FYI. i bought this domain name 5 months ago here at namepros for $39, and i parked it a sedo. the domain name was receiving hardly 10-15 uniques a month!

Doesn't surprise me at all -- I sell many names of this calibre at Sedo and Afternic in those price ranges, without any outside maketing. Remember, many 'appraisals' done here are not based on end-user pricing. They are primarily based on what another domain seller would be willing to pay for it to add to their portfolio (sub-wholesale).

Gene,

So, you sell them without outside marketing, but are they still end users? How do you know? Do they contact you separately and then you guide them to Sedo?

Have you sold names in this price range that were brand new, and did not have a lot of parking traffic?

The only way I have to determine they are end users is that they are paying end-user prices.

No, they make offers directly through Sedo or Afternic.

ALL names I've sold have little or no traffic or PR, and most are new registrations.

Very True (beauty is in the eye of the beholder ! ) - I just wish sedo would list more of their previous sales there, maybe one day :) hint hint
