Critique my Domain Extension Preferences

When I am hand-reging a keyword domain, I prioritize extensions in this order:

.com
.net
.info
.us
.org
.biz

.org usually doesn't make sense for the type of product sites that I am purchasing. .net and .info have some real sales behind them (see DNJournal) so that is why I have prioritized them above .us, although I do like .us.

What are your preferences?

Do any business' use info?
I would put us ahead of info.

It really depends on the type of site. :imho:

E-commerce:
.com
.net
.us (or other ccTLD)
.org
(.info and .biz are never considered)

Informational/Organizational/Business Web Presence/Other
.com
.org
.net
.us
.info
(If .com and .org are not available, I'd change the name/keyword)

Why does everyone hate .biz so much? :)

And, if .us is the 3rd-to-4th best extension, then why aren't there ANY decent .us sales to speak of?

Some of us are into developing more than we are reselling. :!: Sales figures aren't always what's most important unless you're in it to resell.

Dot biz is just a failure of an extension. It was supposed to take weight off .com, but it didn't do that at all. It's awkward and very few, if any, legitimate groups use .biz as their main extension. Not many average Web surfers are familiar with the extension as a result.

your order:
.com
.net
.info
.us
.org
.biz

i would say this for handregges:

.com
.org

.info - sometimes because availability is so much higher , of strong keywords to handreg
.net - almost never

.us - never

.biz - never

having said that other major cctld's would go second but .us cannot and will never be in the league of .uk, .de and other emerging cctld extensions
.us has never really achieved anything as Americans see .com as their extension. its had long enough already to establish itself

just imo

.com
.org
.net
.info

I do not reg anything beneath these. I reg info for minisites, but prefer .org's for that because of the trust people tend to associate with a .org site

So if my main focus is on "e-commerce" type sites that sell specific products, do .org and .info make sense? For an e-commerce site targeting the US market, wouldn't the best order for hand reged, generic, non-hyphenated, keyword domains be as follows?

.com
.net
.us
.biz

In my opinion you must always consider resale even if you are into development because you never know when someone might give you an offer that is too good to refuse.

That is my order as well except I leave off the .info so for me it is just:

.com
.org
.net

Typically, no. If you're selling self-designed t-shirts and donating half the profit to cancer research as part of your business model, then you could use a .org. I can't think of any instance where I'd use a .info for an e-commerce site.

That's how my list would look for a US-targeted e-commerce site, except I'd avoid the use of .biz because of the lack of credibility and familiarity for the average Web user. :)

Thanks for the feedback so far. I've launched a couple of .biz sites that have done ok but I'll probably avoid .biz hand-reging in the future.

Now for the next debate, hyphens. Is it better to get a non-hyphenated .us or a hyphenated .com/.net? I am talking generic, product-focused, keyword domains here where the non-hyphenated .com, .net, .org are already taken.

I'd take the hyphens. :imho: Chances are, your visitors will remember the hyphens over the unfamiliar TLD.
