This sure is a crazy business!

Have a pending sale in escrow for $7,500 for a two word brandable com that I couldn't shift on the forum for $15. Course I won't share the name just in case the buyer finds it on google

Will let you know how it pans out - in escrow sure doesn't always mean completed at escrow huh

What crazy domain stories do you have to share?

I have one..

I bought a domain from a reputable member here on NP. He was sort of a creative seller and on his own accord he offered me 5 free domains with my purchase. If memory serves I bought something for 2xx$... He asked me if I wanted to pick, but I said just give me what ever. Fully expecting to drop them all.

Fast forward 9-10 months and he writes me. If I remember one of those names he gave me (2 word brandable .com).. He asked if I wanted to sell it back to him, since I got it for free I asked for a very fair 1K (;)). Instead of buying it, he told me a lead had come in on his Afternic listing for the domain. Bid of 4K. A couple of months later (it was a very very drawn out negotiation and transaction) the name sold for 5600$. A pretty nice ROI on a name given to me for free.

One of my favourite "crazy domain world" stories. I did give the member a low xxx$ kickback as a help for forwarding the lead.

EDIT
And no; in Escrow does not mean sold. In my particular story the name sat in Escrow for two full months and on the day I asked Escrow to finally cancel it, they wrote me that they secured payment.

When it comes to domains there only worth what someone is willing to pay for them. It's an area full of one mans trash is another mans treasure.

Did you tip/compliment the guy for his referral and transparency?

Some a name hours before it expired for 100 on godaddy premium.

I was scrolling my emails deleting junk / when noticed one godaddy subject looked different from the rest and there she was...

Not crazy, but if only the person waited a little bit longer to type it into the search box.

I received a 6 figure offer on a name I literally just bought. Name isn't worth that or anywhere near it. I was scratching my head about it and turns out the person was trying to apply for a 6 figure mortgage thru my landing page lol.

Ouch! Reminds me of another domain story of mine - a few months back I got an offer via the fabulous landing page for $30,000 - Now I sold all my premiums that warrant that kind of offer a good while back.

This 30k offer was for a nice 7 letter com - maybe worth $5k max to the right buyer - I followed up the offer of course and found out that he did indeed wish to offer $30,000 but not USD but Columbian $ - which equated to around $10 USD :)

Wow, nice return of $7,500 from an end user I'm sure.

I bet some members here are kicking themselves !

I once sold a name for 3K through Netsol certified offer service, that I had bought on Snapnames (I was single bidder or didn't pay more than $200 I think).
The buyer never did anything with the domain. So it expired the next year and we bought it back at NJ if I remember well (Netsol dumped Snapnames at some point for prerelease domains). We paid something like $400 if I remember correctly (there were multiple bidders). This is having your cake and eating it. Hopefully the name will sell again :)

Great story for sure

Sold quite a few names to end users over the years - regularly check what they've done with them dev wise and its unreal how many don't touch them for years.
