"Domainers" is a term often bashed in mainstream, but listening to that narrative is extremely misleading, especially on social media.

Domainers are on top of it all. From finance, sports, politics, technology, pop-culture & so much more. Domainers are fluent at all things.

Domainers are self motivated, entrepreneurial and take calculated risks. Domainers work well in teams or individually.

Domainers have it all!..... Hire or consult with a domainer today!

Domain Investors is a better term. At least if you take the profession seriously.

Gotcha.... I don't take anything too serious..lol.... I have no issue with being labeled a "domainer" or "domain investor"... Mainstream has their own labels for us and it's not as nice, which motivated this post...... I don't need to dress anything up to look different than what it is.... imo

Not many industries can you go from hobbyist to retired in such a short time frame... Just another reason why domainers are so smart and why corporations should be hiring us on the spot here at NPs... Cheers Durfer! Good seeing ya!

They don't need domainers when they just can grab anything from us and anybody else for free, using everyday spying tools.
Believe me if they wanted I would already be working at Apple or other corp, considering the progress with automation I doubt they will need humans at all, in the near future.
But some domainers like me have something which corps don't have, they still don't come to me because they think they will copy it easy as they copy my designs everywhere, this time I did the proper thing and I m going to **** them badly.

Yeh!

but there would be all kinds of conflicts of interest, I would look to a freedom to name and invest clause..

LOL, really? Based on what exactly?
Based on my own experiences.... Domainers are mostly individuals working independently, but there are some **teams** in this industry... Do you not agree?

No I don't agree. I used to be a professional poker player, and I believe that successful domain investors roughly fall into that same category of people – individualists that value personal freedom, and that prefer to work for themselves.

I am a domainer since more than 8 years now and I would like it to be the same in future, independent and free.

If a company tries to hire me, I am sorry, not for 10X than I make. Simple reason, when someone pays you, they expect you to give results proportionately in a timeframe that suits their investors and looks good in their balance sheets.

It doesnt work like that in case of domain names, its a long term patience game and whenever the results come, they can be overwhelming.

Two different ball games!

Sometimes companies pay you and you don't have to do anything and still get the paychecks.
Like Godaddy programmers. Bugs are everywhere and nothing has been fixed for months.
Imagine what will happen if Ebay is down for 5 minutes.

Corporations resonate elephants. They are large, and move very less. Everyone hates them.

I'm not sure companies would want our individual skills. Domainers tend to be Pattern thinkers. That doesn't mean they are restricted by one methodology but they will often use the same approach for different products or ideas. You'll often see this when viewing both good or bad portfolios.

It's a Thinking process 'Order of Merit' that dominates for most of us, myself included

Interesting thread.
I don't think domainers are particularly suitable for 9-to-5 jobs with hierarchical subordination. Rather as members of advisory boards in business and politics. A kind of Oracle of Delphi.
Every now and then I read recommendations from social organizations and employers to hire autistic people in areas where they can work independently and reliably. A different topic, but there are probably overlaps with the domainer spectrum.

If domain investors were to become employees, the saying "don't quit your day job" that is often heard on this forum, will take on a very special meaning.
