Content theft?

I'm considering starting a site on an industry I'm very interested in. I frequent a number of sites that have news items related to the industry, and am thinking about starting my own.

If I place news items on my site that I learned of from other sites, but place in my own words (of course) and probably do further research to add more information, is this considered content theft? I would never just duplicate anything...

Thanks for any help.
Dan

Nope - if it's in your own words, it's your content. As long as you did not copy/paste any of it you should be OK.

Would you be using any of their content (even in your own words?) Have you approached the other sites and just do a link back and just acknowledge them on your site? Sometimes this is a good way to keep all parties happy and smilin

Copyright protects the manner in which facts are expressed, not the underlying facts.

So if they copy the content but word it differently this is ok?

Basically. You just need to make sure you READ iit, then WRITE it... dont copy it, then paste it :). Simple.
