Congratulations! Your Premium Listings domain has sold!

Domain: ******************.com
Date Sold: 2011-Mar-07
Listing Price: $ 395.00
Commission: 30%

For the very first time I used GoDaddy's premium listing to sell a domain name to an end user. Commission is 30% but the good news is that I only paid $7.66 US for it. Reg Fee!

Those of you who argue the commission is to high and that you will never use their service are loosing out. No matter what the commission is at end of the day, GoDaddy is the largest registrar with the most traffic!!! which will result in more sales!

How did you set your sales price? Did you use the GoDaddy recommended price or did you set your own price? I am assuming it prices for resellers rather than end-users. GoDaddy to Estibot is quite different. However, if you order a custom Godaddy appraisal (were free with purchase) the appraisals were almost identical to Estibot.

When you find an end user, you have 1 option for quick payment and its paypal, but from my experience the option of using paypal as a payment option for the buyer seems to turn off buyers and result in 0 sales. I've had several loses in the last 12 months due to using paypal to invoice.

By using GoDaddy's premium listing not only do I raise my chances in selling a domain name but also assure the buyer that the domain is instantly transferred to him when he pays the premium price.
Congrats on the sale!

Despite the 30% commission to Godaddy, it's a nice idea! Although I'm just thinking, is it an option to direct the buyer to a normal Godaddy auction listing? In that case the commission is only 5% (for amounts under $1,000) and buyers can also pay by credit card (if I'm not mistaken?).

They won't get the name instantly, but once the money is cleared you can easily push the name to them by clicking on a link. The buyer might not make a big point of this and might not even be aware or even care of this process and it saves you 25% commission to Godaddy. Or am I missing something here?

Very nice sale though and I fully agree that making the payment for a buyer as easy and simple as possible is very important and often more important then looking for the lowest possible commission.

Congrats bud. I never thought about selling my names through GD auction.

I think I should list some of my names. Looks promising ;)

Strange that after 2 years of nothing at GoDaddy I sold two within a short period of time.

I've noted this too, though to be fair, I've found that's how things seem to work when targeting end users across the board.

I never use godaddy's suggested price and my price is not for resellers, those of you who think you can sell a domain for more then $500 to end users you have no idea on how bad the market is. You are very lucky if you could sell a domain from $50-$500 ! No one buys domains for $500+ unless you got something real special!

Take my advice and price your domains between $200-995 if your going to use gd premium litstings for reg fee domains. I spend hours, months, years to learn how to price domains. End Users are not the same as 2 years ago, they don't spend money like they use too!

Congrats! I've just started listing some of my names there.

May I ask how many domains you have listed now?

Why they take so long to issue the funds?

GoDaddy.com mails the proceeds** of Premium Listing sales in the form of a check, within 45 days after the end of the month in which the domain is sold.

Nice, Congrats. You said that you don't use Godaddy price estimates, does that mean you go higher or lower? After you started this thread I listed several of mine. Even though estibot shows XXXX values, GoDaddy recommends bottom end XXX prices. Is this the same with yours and you just price to your likings?

Congrats on your great sale!

I first figure the price I wanted then added 30% to cover GD - hopefully all goes well. Thanks for the updates Hope. :)

I'm a bit confused on some things here. First I'll start by saying congrats on your sales.

One of the questions is why aren't these "premium" listings showing up at the top of the categories/searches? These would mostly be aimed at godaddy but then again maybe I'm missing something when I'm searching because I don't see them on any category and I know they are there because I see them mixed in among the listings. It appears to me they just make the name bold and give it an "appraisal".

Second would be aimed at you. It seems to me the only advantage you are getting out of this is godaddy is automatically transferring the name to the buyer. If you are emailing end users and pointing them to the listing why not use a regular listing and do the push yourself making an extra 20% or so? The buyer is going to feel comfortable with using godaddy because of the name either way and they are most likely not even going to understand how the name is being placed into their account anyway. If you are losing sales because of paypal (not sure why this would be because they have more of a rep than godaddy) why not use a broker service that only charges 5% or so to handle the financial transaction?

Again I'm not trying to rain on your parade just trying to get a grasp on the advantages/disadvantages. I've sold lots of names on GD auctions since it's inception but never tried out the "premium."

When someone tries to register a domain you own at GoDaddy they are given the chance to buy it if you have a premium listing. When you consider the traffic GoDaddy gets and the number of people trying to register domains it makes it appealing to give 30% for a premium listing.

This domain sale was not targeted to end users, a random search by an individual trying to register my .com found my premium listing as available and paid the premium price, this was a random search by an individual who paid the premium fee.

Also regarding pricing, do not use estibot to determine how much your domain is worth, be your own judge! Pricing is based on experience! I recommend domains you would sell on the forum for reg fee should all be priced between $395 to $895 on GD premiunm lisitngs, you got nothing to loose and ignore GD's price suggestions!

Thanks for the clarification. Giving it a try with about 30 generic names to see what happens. I'll keep ya posted.
