I hope someone can help me with this because I'm totally confused! Heres the story, I've successfully won a bid in snapnames and the domain is transfered to me. But the domain's creation date is reset to current date. Why do this happen? Previously all the domains i won remained their creation date but why this particular domain? I'm sure that the value of the domain will be affected if the domain age is lost right?

the original date expired. A new one started.

The reason for this I believe is with SnapNames relationship with the registrar. GoDaddy sends their domain names to TDNAM - when you win the auction - the domain name is renewed. SnapNames does a similar service with Network Solutions and a few other registrars. However for other registrars, the domain truely does drop. Which means they register it the second it becomes available instead of being handed it on a silver non-expiring plate.

So, my guess is that you got a Domain name that dropped from a non participating registrar at SnapNames.

Then it is just a waste of money right since I could grab it myself when it drop?

This is of course assuming that no one else had a backorder somewhere. But also bare in mind that when a domain drops, and its not caught on a backorder, its almost always captured by a taster. So if it was getting decent traffic, you may not have gotten it!

Did you only buy the domain name because it had aged? If so - then yes, you wasted your time.

Well i supposed there could be competitor. I bought the domain because of the exact keyword, very valuable but the domain is a dot net. Will there be a bad effect cause to the domain in SEO point of view?(If im not mistaken i heard that if a domain is dropped and registered again then it will affect the SEO)

By the way the previous registrar for the domain is Namewinner, I thought Namewinner is under Snapnames? How can Snapnames let the domain drop without renewing the domain?

Well, first off. My assumption is only an assumption. There are probably factors over my held involved in this one. But this was the only reason I can think of to explain what occured. And I believe the answer is yes in terms of SEO. And now also with Googles adsense (atleast my understanding) you get paid less for newer domain names. However your going to want to consult with a SEO expert as I am not one.

Can i blame Snapnames for not keeping the original creation date?

If makes you feel better. But there is almost no sense is complaining about it. Just gonna have to chalk this one up. Also, may want to check SnapNames TOS in regards to this, Im sure they make no claim as to age of domain name. Wouldnt make a whole lot of sense for them to do that. Unless they were specifically marketing these as "old" domain names.
