Confused about domains "Date Updated"

I've picked up a lot of names from snapnames and pool. After 60 days, I like to transfer them over to my Godaddy account to keep as much as I can in one account.

But, today I was looking at names I won over 60 days ago and I see that many of them (a variety of registrars) have a recent "date updated". However, I have not gone into those records and updated them.

Questions:

1. The "date updated" is what the 60 day transfer rule looks at right, not the "date created?"

2. If I have not gone in the names's record, how could it get updated without me?

One such name if you need to look at it is EZExercise.com. I won it on 05/07/06 and the date updated is 06/19/06.

I don't have a clue what the 'Last updated' field actually means. What is classed as an update?

Thanks for any enlightenment. :gl:

AFAIK, the whois of .com and .net domains does not show a Last Updated date.

Where are you seeing this?

I have tools that show this. You can also look at GoDaddy's Whois page with this link:

http://who.godaddy.com/whois.aspx?domain=ezexercise.com&prog_id=godaddy&isc=savenow

Record expires on 29-Mar-2007.
Record created on 29-Mar-2003.
Database last updated on 16-Jul-2006 12:38:59 EDT.

Domain servers in listed order:

NS1.SEDOPARKING.COM 217.160.95.94
NS2.SEDOPARKING.COM 217.160.141.42

Registry Status: REGISTRAR-LOCK
Registry Status: clientTransferProhibited

GD's last update date is changed when you modify the nameservers as well as contact detail changes. I just tried this and confirmed it.

Did you change the nameservers on that date?

I am completely wrong. :td:

I'm used to doing my searches at DomainTools and never see a Last Updated date for a .com or .net domain. However, searching the registry whois, it looks like in fact there is an updated date for .com and .net domains.

As stated above, an update could be a nameserver change, contact information change or even a registrar to registrar transfer.

No. these names are listed at other registrars and I want to transfer them to GoDaddy. I haven't touched them.

No reason to panic, folks. Domain name info is updated in at least two different ways:

1) Periodically on a regular basis, by the man behind the screen (who you should pay no attention to).

2) And by YOU, who looked up the domain's owner, and thus activated an automatic update, because they want the information there to be as accuarate and fresh as possible for you. (This is proven whenever the "update" day and time is also the exact same day and time that you looked it up.)
