Looking to get an expiring domain.

It's at Network Solutions now, set to expire on 12/20.

I've been doing some homework, and it looks like at some point it will go to namejet, and if I backorder it for $69 or something, only anybody else who backorders it will be involved in a private auction.

What I'm trying to understand is: what is the timing on all this? What's the latest I can put in a backorder before the domain becomes un-backorderable and would go to public auction?

Never having tried this before, all the grace period, redemption period, pre-release, pending deletion is getting me confused. :-/

Do I have to put in a backorder before the end of the expiration date? 5 days after that? 35 days after that?

Any help is much appreciated!!!

I won a Netsol name @ NameJet today. It expired on 11/9 and the auction started on 12/15.

There is around a 35 day gap between when the domain expires and when the backorder deadline is.
In the near future it will tell you exactly what date the backorder deadline is.

If there are no bidders you want to backorder it as close to that deadline on the date as possible. If you are the only bidder it is a direct backorder awarded to you, otherwise it will go to private auction.

The domain hasn't even expired yet, and the registrar has already changed the nameservers.

Wow.

Another reason to dislike Netsol.

Just search for it at NameJet (you can even get them to email the search results each day). When it is listed there you will see the deadline.
