.tv Confused about something

Ok so im a tad bit confused, and I bet someone could probably clear this up in all of 2 mins haha. Underworld.tv is available at name.com for $245, now is this a register of a premium domain name?? How do they work exactly, originally I thought all domain names were up for grabs for normal reg fee and I had this idea about premium domain names and the such but never bothered to research it since its always been out of my price range but this caught my eye and im finally wondering how premium registrations work.

Any help would be appreciated :guilty:

Thanks

Verisign, in their infinite greed, now has "no-more-Premium" Premium up-front hefty :$: fees ... to further confuse potential Registrants and to ensure that there is (still) no uniquely developed .TV "ecosystem", IMHO. :red:

Good Luck,

So its basically a increased renewal fee?

So its basically a increased renewal fee?

I'd say it's removing the hefty "Premium" annual renewal fee ... and discounting it back to the present (in the form of an new up-front "Premium" Reg. fee) in order to price it to sell more .TV's to domainers and increase their profits! :yell: :imho:
They had to scrap their old :$: "Premium" system because it wasn't working for them and their bottom line, IMHO.

Caveat emptor,
Jeff B-)

The name you are interested in is a .TV premium. It is a one time up front charge. Once you have it registered it will follow NORMAL renewal fees.

If you could follow Jeff's bumbling answer - TV used to have ANNUAL renewals at a premium rate. This is NO LONGER the case for NEW registrations.

You will be charged $245 this year and $20-40 for subsequent years depending on the renewal rate in effect. The only other difference between a premium and non-premium is that they are not offered at ALL registrars. Name.com/Dynadot.com/Enom.com are the most common - try all three - they sometimes have lower prices though name.com seems to be the consistently lowest at the moment.

If you do make a purchase and return to this forum - which you should as there are wise people here - you will become used to Jeff's ramblings and learn to mostly tune them out.

Sorry he managed to confuse you and not provide a coherent answer in two posts.

Ah I see, thank you both for letting me pick your brains :P

I love learning new things, what was confusing me was the fact that ive heard people talking about renewals costing $xxx amount per year.

If Verisign and the teeny isle of Tuvalu decide to change their minds, there could once again be hefty annual $Xxx / $X,xxx renewals ... also, the ".TV" could cease operations altogether at the end of their current contract in 2016, as well. :guilty:
So much uncertainty with the ccTLD ".TV"! :imho:

Hope that helps,

It is unlikely that the .tv extension will go anywhere but up as it is already. Confidence is high that with the purchase not only of OWN.tv by Oprah Winfrey to develop her own network but other players in the media world here and internationally, it has fast become "too big to fail". The developments of the past few months encourage even greater signs of life for the now undeniable popularity of the .tv extension.

It is as if another techno-evolutionary step has taken a foothold into the 21st century. I do not concern myself with disconcerting rumors and innuendos as they basically mean...nothing.

Defaultuser supplied you with accurate information.

Get real, Jeff!

Get real ...

I simply don't trust Verisign, and the last 10+/+ years in the ".TV" should give us enough historical information / perspective about the ccTLD and its marketing relationship with teeny isle of Tuvalu, IMHO. :guilty:

Onward and upward,

The .tv extension is for Tuvalu, so im guessing the domainers have started using it as a television extension as such?

Not only domainers, but large tv corporations all over the world use it to promote their tv shows etc etc. Various sports leagues use the .tv extension to broadcast live games and highlights.

I think there is hope that one day it will be developed (which will reguire unique, stand-alone development!) & marketed as "TV" (Television) and "Video" ... but right now - by and large - generally no one really knows anything about the extension other than a few domainers, IMHO. :red:
It's a struggle for acceptance and adoption at present (and for 10+ years and running)! :imho:

Best,

Indeed...and not only domainers, but the endusers see the advantage as well of a term(tv) that has been branded for 60+ years and the advent of the Internet convergence with the HDTV as well as iPad and any other mobile technology on he horizon only makes the extension a better fit, especially since the adjustments made in mid-March regarding pricing.

Too late to stop the train...the light at the end of the tunnel is bigger and brighter!

Aha awesome.

It actually looks like a nice domain extension, im not to fond of any others, and .com is the obvious one to go with because its so well known.

Hopefully .TV will do very well in the future it would be a nice one to see go big.

In the UK we are seeing some usage. Some big sites include pricedrop.tv and bid.tv

...yep

...and when you feel comfortable enough to climb aboard, you will be in good company, endusers and domainers alike. Best of luck and fortune to you in whatever path you take!

It could one day serve a small niche, IMHO. :music:

That's good news, regionally ... sometimes I'm a bit encouraged by examples of necessary, unique, stand-alone .TV developments (though typically it's few and far between)! :yell: :imho:

Thanks kindly,
Jeff B-)
