Hi there guys,

I have rather an annoying problem with my computer at the moment. Basically, the fan is blowing at full pelt all the time and it is really loud. Any suggestions how to stop it :)

Thanks

Usually fans are heat controlled, the harder it blows the more heat your PC is generating.

Which fan are you referring to? The CPU fan? Chipset fan? Case fan?

Im not sure what fan it is but i think it is the case fan.

One thing, since you mentioned heat, it is beside a radiator? Should that make the slightest bit of difference? :hehe:

depends check the temperature down there, shouldnt be in a closed space

Any overclocking/modding?
What kind of computer?

Have you restarted recently? (left it shutdown for awhile?)

It is always shut down when not in use but it is a family pc so it is used all the time at night. :)

I just cut the power wire to my fan when that happened
and my computer has worked nice and quietly ever since

Stupid thing to do. Sure it might be quieter, but it'll be hotter and have more risk of damage.

I have to admit that is pretty tempting to do but slightly dangerous :hehe: Its ridiculous though as it is May and we still have radiators on lol

Why cut the wire when you can just unplug it from the motherboard?

Also if the case fan seems to be acting up and gets louder it's one of two things

1.) Just distortion, sometimes the fan will rev low
2.) Fan needs to be replaced. Case fans that get louders usually need replaced.

Also keep your computer on all the time, shutting it down when not in use is not good for it. You should defrag and shutdown no more than once every two weeks.

i never knew about that. Does it use much power when it is idle?

It recently had a systems restart to the tune of 100 pound. I bought it a year ago and the warranty ran out just as it packed in. Any one ever heard of cybermaxx?

Thanks for some suggestions

No it doesn't use much power at all, especially if you set it to hibernate. I have heard of Cybermaxx they advertise in most of the computer magazines but I have never dealt with them before.
