could be because most good .com's are no longer available.

for example if greatmovies.com/net/org/co or great-movies.com/net/info/org/co etc are not available.

i would not bother with 1greatmovies.com or alternatives.

domains are being snapped by by so many people these days, its an extremely competitive industry to be in.

It takes luck skill and judgement to snag any new great domains.

Verisign Industry Briefs paint a clear picture. Lots of speed bumps but ccTLD growth has outpaced com/net for a long time. During the 5-year period Q1-2007 to Q1-2012, ccTLD registrations were up 108%, com/net up 69%. No news here, com/net had a head start and trees don't grow to the sky.

Trailing 12-month growth rates
Q1-2008 ccTLD +33%, com/net +22%
Q1-2009 ccTLD +18%, com/net +9%
Q1-2010 ccTLD +3%, com/net +7%
Q1-2011 ccTLD +5%, com/net +9%
Q1-2012 ccTLD +16%, com/net +8%

The good new gTLDs will all go to Google and Amazon - no one else can compete in auction with them. Amazon will lock up theirs' for in-company use. Google, it has been speculated, will give their domains away to get adwords placement on them. Neither will impact businesses who want a good name and have money to pay for it.

The new gTLDs compete with the identical .Com domains, to a degree, and there may be less reg fee .Coms purchased, otherwise there will be very little actual impact. Mental impact, perhaps, perhaps a lot, and it could go either way.
