It's amazing when some people advice not to spend xxx for 100 strong keyword ngTLD and ccTLD, but advice to buy One super puper triple premium .com for x.xxx figures and hire a broker or sell it to some sort of "unique end buyer".

120 million registrations of .com. Lol people.

Thats only .com ...... c.o.m ....... c-o-m .........

This 3 letters have no sence. That's only a big bubble.

It's easy to count. In any extension(ccTLD) value have at least 10k single word and perhaps 100k word combinations. Look at Google.

All other names have no future. 90% of domains with websites have hand-regged domains, with no sense. You cannot sell anything to them. They will not pay.

Future have unique, memorable, readable domains with Sense. That's all.

99% of the .com domains that most end users want are in the hands of 1% of domainers. So, most domainers should hope that there is a shift away from .com's in the future otherwise, domaining is just a waste of time because all the real money making domains are in the hands of a few top domainers.

There is no hard data to support this op's title or post. Fact is, .com is the only extension with a long track record of strong performance.

Furthermore, if you understand the "why" behind .com dominance, it's pretty simple to understand.

There could be some other extensions that become popular, but when .com is soooooo far ahead, it will be nearly impossible to catch up.

As a domain name investor, I know this, I sell more .com domains that anything. As a matter of fact, I probably have a couple hundred domains in extensions other than .com and I don't get inquiries on any of them. That includes LL and dictionary words. Other extensions are just not there...yet.

Also, just as a little side note....

I noticed that .TOP staff have been listing "Premium .TOP domains in Make Offer auctions. I checked a couple of them like a/t/./t/o/p. On other platforms, they are asking $21,600 for it. Now that some serious risk.

Quality .com domains represent the least risk for a domain investor interested in buying and selling domains. Of course the definition of "quality" is where things get subjective and more complex.

A "make offer" is not an "auction".
There is either a "
(binding) auction" or a "(not binding) make offer" - thread - but there are no "(binding) make offer - auctions".
Therefore, no risk here.

As a domainer (not sure though), I think every extension has some potential end users but we should need to carefully choose our names, most of people's .com is the first extension come when they hear about domain name. I was spaying on one of my uneducated friend smart phone and I show a history were he typed snny lone vido .com, what I got surprised, he typed all the word wrong but not forget to type .com at the end.

Again as a domainer, I still not have any sale in .com ($xxx) but I do have sale in other extension (mostly .co) but I can see there are lots of domainer who sale .com name for big buck even after new reg.

.com is king in my world and I have sales to prove I'm successful with it. Other domainers can invest in whatever they like and I have no problem with it. Do what works for ya. If your profitable in a certain extension then roll with it and continue, if sales aren't there then you'll need to adjust your investment strategy. Numbers don't lie so sales numbers will guide ya to what works for ya.

In my opinion, .com is the first and the most important extension and it will keep its importance in future .

I'm another fan of .coms, in fact I'm starting to dump my other extensions. I may keep a couple of .nets, but the others can go. Even if some other extension gains massive popularity, the .com equivalent will ride on the pack of that popularity.

You are free to do experiments with domains, but don't say that you didn't be warned. It's a very expensive hobby. Domaining itself is risky, but selecting .coms makes the things more simple for you and the buyer. Or do you prefer a huge crap and useless portfolio?

Thanks for the top OP but I'll stick with the proven brand extension if you don't mind

.
....but yet as a know-it-all domainer you are not aware of the fact that the .com which has no meaning in your mind stands for commerce or commercial....

A Very outrageous opinion given here, a .com extension is the first extension and ruler when it comes to extensions. The replies on this thread have already covered every reason as to how outrageous the opinions at the start of this thread are hence I won't waste my time going into too much detail.

I am sure new TLDs have their place but based on the data at hand a .com is the best choice for doing business and then other extensions can come into play later based on the wide factors involved in selection, acquisition and usage of a domain.

You are valued to your opinion but your opinion is flawed, Your statement can be comparable to saying a Oranges don't have a future since you came across the nutritional benefits of Apples.

Those Oranges still have a future and more so those Apples... never forget that.
.... This thread is a joke.

Other extensions might see growth and more sales but holding times and the erratic premium pricing are real stumbling blocks for i'm sure many domain investors.

Dont get me wrong, I have some nGTLD names i really believe could bring a good roi. But it might take much more time to get them sold and for nowhere near the price of the .com versions.

Put it this way: youโ€™ve got a dot com to sell. Looking for comparables, you find almost the exact same word / words / phrase or letโ€™s say even - the exact same domain, in say .net .top .us - whatever, being sold at buydomains or Afternic. Sooo, are you going to set your equivalent dot com LOWER than the selling prices of the other domains?

Of course not!

And, WHY not? Because the dot com is worth more. Thatโ€™s why.

(Converse true too. If you find the equivalent dot com being sold for a certain price, dollars to doughnuts :xf.grin: youโ€™re going to price your .net .top .xyz lower than the dot com. Youโ€™ve no choice, because nobody pays more for those ersatz suffixes than they do for the equivalent domain in a dot com.)

If you have bad names in .com, then yes they have no future... doesn't mean the TLD is the problem, you are the problem.
