Hi folks,
I'm looking for some insight into domain appraisal. One can probably make a case for valuation purely on traffic, but is there some notion of vanity? That is to say, do people/companies buy domains simply because they want them? What is it called when they do, "vanity"?

Back to traffic, I'm guessing that the value of traffic varies. Some traffic is curious, other traffic is ready to spend money. How does one measure this aspect of the traffic?

I'd love you know what you think about the value of cold.com and why.

Also, I'd be interested in your thoughts on the best approach to selling it. I want to maximize value. If that means holding it another couple of years, then I will do that. Thoughts?

Thanks for your time.
Dave

Questions:
What does "selling domain IMO" mean?
IMO - in my opinion

What does "0-NP$" mean, net present value of future traffic?
NP$ = namepros currency, currently valued at US$0.02
Some kind of a joke, apparently :hehe:

BTW, 95% of the visitors continue on to cold medicine related topics.
Exactly.

Also, it was interesting to see that about 20%-30% were heading to holistic remedies.
Very interesting.

Does anyone know who decides to buy a domain in a company? Is it the marketing dept or the advertising company or IT?
At these valuations, probably the ceo or the board. But this is not a DIY sale, especially since you might not be completely up to speed with this.

I think you should start contact via marketing department, but most likely final decision will be made involving CEO or board of directors.

As long you put tons of quality content for cold and allergies and do some good seo work. If your site comes in first 10 , big pharma will be after you. Getting big money shouldn't be problem. That is how you can attract them.
thx

i suggested privacy to avoid spam , and to protect from hackers

when the cold.com owner is sharing his thoughts here i feel its better to protect by whois

u can see lot of threads abt llll.com scammers so i just mentioned

but for selling the domain ya its not needed to go for whois privacy :)

To be honest this doesn't immediately strike me as a million dollar domain. Six figures for sure, whether it is low $xxx, xxx or high $xxx, xxx, is probably a matter of salesmanship :) I'm not saying a million bucks is not a possibility, but that would require some work.

Big pharma or "alternative" remedies companies are the obvious choices. There is also huge money in the holistic/other snake oil market.

One thing for consideration- might it be useful to employ the services of professional brokers to promote and sell this domain at top dollar? Companies such as Moniker, SEDO, and whatnot? If I had this domain, I'd probably make some enquiries their way.

Good luck

ColdFX comes to mind. Not sure if they sell it in the states yet but I'd think they would pay 1mil for the domain.

Yep cold-fx was the first thing that came to my mind as well

I think this is a million dollar name if you get the right end users in a bidding war

I agree, it's probably still a little bit early for reaching the mil figure, give it another year or so more. I think in this current stage of the market $100k-$200,000 would be around what i t should get. I think Thin.com was taking BIN's on sedo for around 100k. But now with the LLLL.com sellout I think any dictionary 4 Letter Domain should be atleast between 100k-$200,000.

Cold would very much suit a Beer Brand!

But it can be 2 faced here aswell becuase let's not forget porn.com selling for 9.5 million

Anything could happen between now and the demand of this name.

Well actually (since you mention it), I have had 3 offers over the six digit mark, which I refused. My top offer for thin.com was 300k on a one-year payment plan. Payment plans make me nervous, so I declined. I would never take under 200k up front for this domain.

Regarding cold.com: I see it having similar potential and traffic. There is no automatic set amount these domains are worth. It comes down to what it is worth to you. Four-letter word .com's are extremely hard to come by, and especially hard to buy for a reasonable dollar value. In fact, I'd bet that 90% of the generic four-letter .com domain holders do not want to sell.

I would say 200k as a starting point. depending what it is worth to you to part with this domain. Best of luck!

Either you're messing with me, or I don't know the value of a good domain.

Thin.com is as good as cold.com (at least) and weightloss is a huge industry. Build a site on it, will be worth low seven figures, easy.

And it wouldn't cost all that much to do either, the name will do everything you need :)
