Hi folks,
I'm looking for some insight into domain appraisal. One can probably make a case for valuation purely on traffic, but is there some notion of vanity? That is to say, do people/companies buy domains simply because they want them? What is it called when they do, "vanity"?

Back to traffic, I'm guessing that the value of traffic varies. Some traffic is curious, other traffic is ready to spend money. How does one measure this aspect of the traffic?

I'd love you know what you think about the value of cold.com and why.

Also, I'd be interested in your thoughts on the best approach to selling it. I want to maximize value. If that means holding it another couple of years, then I will do that. Thoughts?

Thanks for your time.
Dave

what kind of traffic are you getting on SEDO?
I would put the value on Cold.com at low xxx,xxx - mid xxx,xxx

99% of the traffic comes from browsers simply typing in the domain - 1% comes from other.
The stats are not clear to me and I'm a bit buzzed at the moment, but it looks like 2300 uniques A and 2600 uniques B in monthly mode.
Yes, it's true, I have been lazy about this domain and I should know how to read the stats. Maybe I should develop it - could the anunity be worth more than the sale?

BTW thanks for your opinion of value.

Welcome to NamePros!

I think direct targeted offers and premium auctions can be most useful output to attract pharmaceutical companies and conditioners, refrigerators, cold-storages etc related endusers. I think pharmaceuticals might be primary target - they have huge marketing budgets, high sales margins and broad international target market. Advertising of drugs is restricted in many countries - amount of natural traffic to their websites may be really valuable for them. Sales range could be between high $XX,XXX and low $X,XXX,XXX depending on your ability to find right enduser and negotiate price.

Good luck!

Great Domain!

Of course their is more money in development, thus the reason an end-user would purchase this name, it all comes down to do you own any products or services or ideas that could profit from this domain? and do you have the finance to build and market your brand?

If not and your simply referring to a parking page or even a simple affiliate site, you would get more cash from selling the domain IMO.

Plenty of industries could use this. If you are pro-active in finding a buyer i'm sure the minimum sale would be at least 6 figures.

$xxx,xxx

Big Pharma would surely be interested in this. Big Pharma got Big Money and Big Competition.

wow I like this valuation.

Kidding aside, develop this domain and you will get more money out of it. But if you don't have any plans yet, move this domain to parked parking don't waste your traffic in sedo. I'm assuming most of your traffic is coming from north america.

keep me posted.

I second that, you can make a fortune out of this name if you can develop this one.

Again from my personal opinion dont sell this domain for atleast another 8-10 years. :$: :$: :$: :$: :$: :$: :hehe:

I got it at the beginning ... it was available along with travel.com, caribbean.com, tropic.com, and several others I thought about getting. My wife and I were saving for a house when I mentioned to her that I thoughts these domain names could be worth something some day. But the house was more important so I didn't get them. I'm not sure I know how long I have had it - doesn't it say on the whois?

65.9% North America
17.1% Europe
10.7% Asia
2.6% South America
2.2% Africa
1.5% Oceania

Do you remember how much the initial registration was?

I think initial registration was free. It was shortly there after that it became $50 or $75. I think that was anbout the time that InterNIC became Network solutions or something like that.

:'( regged in 1995. Great catch and even better hold. I'm sure just travel.com would have set your wife up with a Malibu mansion and then some. But this will do just fine too...

Very nice name, huge applicability to pharma but also to a multitude of other industries.

I'd estimate it to be worth $500k - $1.5M, jmo, good luck and welcome to NamePros.

Easily in the high xxx.xxx to mid x.xxx.xxx depending on the end user and whether you're getting multiple offers that you can engage in a bidding war.

Great domain,

M.
