Hey all,

I saw a few posts on here whilst I was banned ( :guilty: ) about .CO.UK domain names such as 'Business.co.uk' and the like. I would just like to clear it up once and for all.

This domain name, and other great ones are called pre-noms (Pre Nominet) and were registered before Nominet took over the .co.uk registry.

You may think 'that it is against their policies' or 'their policies may not even exist if they are going to act like this' however, these domain are not under their policies.

Pre-Nom Names are domain names which are waiting for the original registrants to re-activate their domains by by accepting their new Policies/Terms and conditions.

So in effect, they can do what they like with these names. But they have chosen to take action this year to get all of the remaining and unclaimed domains and re-circulate them so that somone else can put them to good use.

They have attempted to contact the owners and if they do not reply within a certain allocated time then they will release them.

I was talking to the lucky beggar that managed to catch 'Kiss.co.uk'... Lucky!

As for trying to catch them, you have no chance. In the world of .CO.UK domains, all of the 'amazing' domains get caught by private companies that just hog all of the decent domains and dont even do so much as park or sell them. :|

Ahh well... So much for pre-nom domains.

Interesting...and the lucky bugger who caught kiss.co.uk is one of those private companies?

Yes. The guy who bought it is currently developing his own system for catching .CO.UK names.

Even he said to me that he was very lucky to manage to catch 'Kiss.co.uk' as they are very unpredicable, because they tend to be letting the pre-nom domains go randomly.

To become a .CO.UK domain name registrar, you have to buy a 'TAG'. Most of the companies that are able to catch the domain names are early tag owners.

If you just watch 'Who got what..." on Deleting.co.uk, you can see that there is only a handful of TAGS that are catching all of the good names.

Oh ok. And is there a list somewhere of these early names or is it a random lucky search result check? :)
