reece closed the sales thread on Hir.mobi before I had a chance to respond to the news that cnskol had simply cancelled the deal on me (in fact, before I even knew my purchase had been cancelled - and the domain re-sold...)...

Look, a seller can do what he likes with his domain - that's his right...But, I'm here to say that I think what the seller, cnskol, did was bit rough, imo...

The usual convention is that we inform buyers of the terms of the sale upfront....cnskol didn't do that - He accepted my bid at his asking price - then reneged on the deal using conditions he did not inform us of.....and I lost the domain...

Here's what happened:

cnskol didn't say anything in his OP about payment by PayPal only....Nor did he say payment had to be made within 2 days...he said only that the price of the domain was valid for 12 hours....I posted 'sold' well within that 12 hours.

Having posted 'sold' in the thread for Hir.mobi - I, then, immediately realised I needed to top up my PayPal funds (my bad - I should have checked beforehand, but usually a seller can accommodate that, if it happens, unless otherwise stated)....I immediately PM'd the seller, cnskol, to inform him - and, to advise him that it may take a few days for the funds to arrive in my PayPal account, and reassured him I was good for the money....asking if that would be okay...and, I apologised.....I also offered to pay by Escrow.com instead....cnskol refused to agree to Escrow.com, and said 'PayPal only'.

I replied that unfortunately I had to wait a few days for the funds to arrive from my bank...He PM'd me saying he wanted the money fast - I replied again saying I could pay just as fast as the money arrived in PayPal from my bank.

...Next I knew, he cancelled the deal....the domain was sold to someone else....and the thread was closed...before I even got back online just a few hours later...

Many here know that a deal with me is a deal (see my Trader rating - Look at my Sig)...If I'd known the seller's condition was pay by PayPal within 2 days (and Escrow wouldn't be acceptable) I'd have checked with him about my PayPal top up before I posted 'sold'

Like I said, he can do what he likes...But, cnskol didn't tell us what the terms were upfront - He accepted my bid - Then reneged on the deal, using conditions he did not inform us of.....and I lost the domain...

...Like I said....I think that's rough.

PS...Many thanks to ItalianDragon, and to sf2010 for the kind words of support....I appreciate that, guys.

From my understanding it is the sellers obligation to post requirements in the sales thread, such as paypal only, or time requirements.

However, things like this do happen from time to time and of course NP is not responsible for the behavior of anyone on these forums. I just hope the seller is STRONGLY informed on how to conduct sales here in the future.

Yes, there's nothing we can do about this after the fact unfortunately, but I think it's been made very clear what's expected moving forward.

DT just a heads up. If you have a bank account linked to paypal
with a verified credit card you can make instant payments. The
money goes to the seller instantly. Might make purchases easier
in the future :)

Sorry for the misfortune on this one. Maybe the new buyer will
agree to get the name to the rightful owner (you). He is a good
guy from past experience!

Firstly, say sorry to DomainTaker, I make mistake not say pp only.
Actually I really need quick money to ugent use, so I sale this name only $250.
I also list "price valid for 12 hours".

DT post sold and told me he can't finish the payment by pp, that's mean i can't get the money right now, following is the detail of our pms:
Re: hir.mobi

As you can see from my Trader Ratings, I've got an excellent reputation for buying domains...

However, I've just realised my PayPal needs topping up (which I've done), but it'll take a few days for the funds to be transferred from my Bank to my PayPal account...Can you wait a few days for payment on Hir.mobi?...and in the meantime we have a deal?

Sorry about that...

Please let me know.

Cheers,

Okay, cnskol....I appreciate the apology. What's done is done - lets put it behind us...

Lets agree this...Next time, you be sure to explain the rules of your sale - and, I'll be sure to have sufficient funds in my PayPal when I post 'sold'...Okay?

...Oh, and, if you have another similar domain you wish to sell - how about you offer me the chance to buy it first by PM....?...:)

And, cac14850....If by any chance, under the circumstances, you feel you'd like to sell me Hir.mobi at the $250...then please PM me....:)

Happened to me once before, second buyer was nice enough to give me the domain at the same price and seller was apologetic and volunteered pm preview before next sale. I got a name that I really liked then and probably would have missed it. Good luck.

To play devil's advocate here, he was parting with a great domain for peanuts because he needed the money for something right now. Yeah of course he should have stated that in his post but we're all human. Whatever he needed the money for now for was obviously important enough to part with this domain for so little, so why on earth would he give up his domain for nothing 2+ days from now and not solve the money problem he has today? He hasn't solved anything that way, and on top of it lost his domain.

It's like going to a pawn shop to hawk your wedding ring and having them tell you "we'll send you a check in 4-6 weeks".

hijack attempt.... sort of..

not to hijack your thread, but this is still somewhat similar...

i spent a few hours waiting to bid on the last live auction here only to have the seller not follow thru (sellers choice auction)... still not sure what really happened since the fellow is now listed as "Account Closed" ...

but on a brighter note, some bad happens now and then, but it is pretty cool that so many transactions do happen smoothly here since it boils down to being a matter of the honor system... ie- 99+ percent of the folks here are pretty honorable...

sorry to hear about your bad experience DomainTalker, but perhaps your Kharma is balanced now for a big sale soon.... (i hope so)

cheers,
d

I guess nothing can be really done now except to acknowledge what has happened and ensure that things like this don't happen again in the future.

Yes, I can confirm this.
I've added both bank account and credit card.
If you have no money in the paypal account, but have money in the bank, with the addition of both bank account and credit card as backup, you can transfer the money over immediately.
I've tried it numerous times.

Thanks for the advice keithmt & mrdomainman about the effect of linking a credit card to the verified PayPal & Bank Account....That would have avoided the problem completely.

...I'll set that up right away.
