Hi,

NamePros member SlumDog (real name Kaustuv Gogoi from India) had asked me to sell a few of his domain names, including Poker.GI.

I contacted my network, and one of my contacts expressed interest in paying $500. I communicated the same to Kaustuv, who said he would prefer offers around $1k.

My contact reverted back saying that his best offer would be $777, and for that he would need to consult his partner, and he can confirm back in a few hours. He asked me if the domain can be kept under virtual 'lock' for a few hours (and not offered to anybody else.)

I asked Kaustuv, and he said he would be okay with $777. He gave me 'his word'. Still being skeptical, I asked him to change the WHOIS email on the domain temporarily to my email for the next few hours until my contact confirms the deal.

Kaustuv agreed to do it, and a while later informed me that he has initiated a request for email change and it should be done in a few hours.

Upon hearing this, I notified my contact that he can go ahead with confirming the deal price with his partner.

I went out for 2-3 hours, and when I came back to my desk, I saw 2 mails.

First was from my contact, confirming that he is okay with the $777 price and would like to go ahead with the deal.

Second was from Kaustuv, asking to put the domain sale on hold.

I mailed Kaustuv and mentioned that the contact has already agreed to the $777 price and the sale is done.

He did not reply.

Then I called him and he did not pick his phone. I called again, he picked and said that there are transfer problems with .GI registry due to which this deal should be put on hold.

When I asked details about these transfer problems, he mentioned that he would explain these later and he was busy.

After that, I have called him numerous times, and sent several messages, but he does not respond.

My understanding is that he probably got an email from another party offering a higher price, due to which he is backing out from the deal.

What should I do now?

Thanks,
Prakhar

Two things:
1. Move on
2. Never do business with him again

I have 2 questions, that may or may not be relevant to the affair:

  1. Are all the parties involved in this deal aware that unlike .com.gi, .gi domains are restricted to local companies ?
  2. Does that mean that the current whois record is not accurate and ownership of the domain open to challenge ?

1. We, the broker and the buyer, are aware. My contact/lead has a local (proxy) presence.
2. Yes, the current WHOIS records are fake.

'Slumdog' just sent me a SMS saying that he is willing to honor the deal, if I delete this thread.

I have replied in positive, and hope that the deal will close today.

Slumdog initiated the transaction on Escrow.com. Payment was made, after which Slumdog confirmed to Escrow that domain has been transferred.

The truth is that the transfer has not happened - the process has not even started.

Slumdog is not replying to messages. When called, he says he is busy and will call later. He never calls. This has been happening for 3 days now.

I am totally pissed off.

Thanks for the heads up.
Strange that a member since 2009 with a TR of 18 (90% score though) would drag his feet, as he logged in at NP no later than today. Perhaps send a PM to him to make sure he sees this thread.
