The China registry is proud to announce a 154% annual increase in .CN registrations, making it the most popular TLD in Asia.
The China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), which oversees the administration of the top-level domain for China, has stated that this is the first time it has ever happened.
By the end of December 2005, nearly 1.1 million .cn domains had been registered, making it the largest in Asia and the sixth-largest in the world.
Using stats from October 2004, CNNIC said that China had 74 million IPv4 (Internet Protocol version 4) addresses in use, passing the UK and making China the third-largest country in terms of the number of IPv4 addresses used; only the US and Japan use more.
In July 2005, China had over 103 million Internet users, with 622,534 registered .cn domains. CNNIC is expected to release an update of its figures later this month.
